According to the thread here http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=68300 it takes 2 adapters, a gender changer and a SCSI cable that accomodates two drives to fit an internal card reader and still the have SCSI port on back of the MPC.
I decided to put the card reader inside an enclosure as it's less messy ,I can keep my floppy drive, the enclosure costs about the same as all the adapters and I can use the card reader with other samplers.

I suspect the Yamaha bridges are working fine and it's jpacs card reader or something that is at fault as MPCHunters website is saying the Yamaha bridge should work and he doesn't seem the sort to be publishing spurious data.

When the enclosure arrives I'll be hooking it up straight away and will let yous know if it works or not.

whats the latest with this - did you enclosure get stuck in xmas post?

I'm still tempted to go for this drive but don't really want to get it then a day later you post it don't work let me know when you can - kinda clutching at straws, seems sampler heads have been tapping CF drives for years, every person I speak to has sold them to someone for their Emu's.

It hasn't arrived yet.

I got the enclosure but someting is wrong.
My computer can detect the Yamaha bridge but not the card reader/CF card attached to it and my MPC detects nothing at all.

I've been offered one of those Acard AEC-7720U but not sure if I'll try it or not.

Wouldn't it be best to keep all card reader posts in one thread ? It's getting hard to keep track of all the different Card Reader threads.

I think one sticky CF thread would be nice, saves us boring other people too - I've also found some of the info scattered across this forum specifically relating to CF drives a bit hard to follow as its a bit here and a bit there etc.

most scsiforsamplers similar internal kits for 3000 were Acard as far as I can gather.

If we are talking about our london friend as a supplier, then def worth a try. he's a good guy, like you said very helpful - I should have bought from him from the start.

PLUS seriously, in a year Acards are gonna be near impossible to find, they are already getting that way - this might be your last chance at a non stupid price, sell it on later if it doesn't work. can he set the firmware to 3.75 for you?

got mine from the same guy today - I'm missing a female molex to male floppy cable (that he has on order) then I'm up and running - FINGERS CROSSED. its been easy to put together so far, even for a dumb F like me. couldn't resist starting right away even though I did have eveything to finish, I could solder 2 wires together, but honestly I just want to get a clip into place cable, I don't want any risks with that ticking time bomb of a scsi fuse.

for this reason I've decided to play gently with the 3000 and just have a internal only and block up the rear port. I want to be able to freewheel about on the QL-400 without having to velcro a drive to it, so don't need that port - can always change my mind at a later date, nothing perm done...

BTW, do you have other samplers? coz your yamaha bridged enclosure might work with those, just saying it might not be a waste is all.

a real stab in the dark but is any of this info useful? might be down to menu option in the 3000?

Manual makes no mention of attempting to isolate or shield any components that could potentially short out.

Use of electricians insulation or air-conditioning duct tape may help to keep potential short circuits at bay.

Have you disabled MULTI SECTOR transfer mode in the MPC3000 and tried saving again ?

I got confirmation that the Acard works with the MPC3000 so Iam swapping the Yamaha bridge for one.

I only tried it with my Windows Xp computer and MPC60. I didn't have the correct cable to connect the enclosure to the CD3000. Both are 50 pin Centronics and everything else I have is db25.

The MPC60 doesnt have anything like that.
You only get to set length of scan on boot and SCSI id

I got the Acard and it works with my MPC60.
It was a little more expensive than I thought as I had to buy a few extra bits and bobs.

I'm not sure if the Yamaha bridge I had was faulty or not set up right, or something as I was getting different results from other posters with it .

Anyhoo, the Acard worked staright out the box.
Here is what I ended up with and a breakdown of costs(including shipping),

Acard 7720u (not sure what firmware)
ACS ide compact flash card reader - £80(for acard and card reader)
TraxData SCSI enclosure - £16.50
3 1/4" to 5 1/4" drive bay converter £7 (I've seen them go for as littlle as £1 on Ebay)
50 pin centronics to db25 SCSI cable - £10.65
IDE extension cable - £5
Lexar Proffesional 1gb CF card - £15

I needed the ide extesion cable as the supplied ide cable to connect the card reader to the Acard was a centimetre or 2 short and the card reader would not reach the front of the enclosure., which was kind of unexpected.

I have tested with 2 different cards. A Transcend 2gb industrial Ultra and a Lexar Proffesional 1gb (x133). The Lexar works fine, the Transcends does not work.

I can format,create partitions, save and load with no problems and dual Windows/MPC partitions created with MPC Editor also work as expected.

Thanks for the update. I'm trying to secure all the parts now. How did you utilize the SCSI enclosure? Also, how did you mount the ACARD to the card reader to make it all fit? It looks like the scsiforsamplers guys just glued the adapter to the tray of the card reader. Just trying to see what works best. Any pictures of the reader/install would be huge. yeah SCSIforsamplers just hotglued it to the bottom of the case. He also hotglued all the cables together. Good thing for him, but a pain in the b.. for me because i moved everything internal.
