you mean changing the time signature to create a changeup/break?
oh wait, i know what you're on about -- doubling the tempo for your beat to increase the timing resolution.
if you want to make a beat at, say, 80bpm, then turn the tempo to 160, and play your notes at what would be halftime.

I never new this was a "Dilla trick"
I was doing that on FruityLoops4 before I even knew Dilla existed.. (I was diggin some of his beats though, but didn't know shit..
)
T'was kinda necessary though cos the step edit only contained of 16 steps, so if you wanted to do crazy ass 32s, there was simply no other way

Don't loot me dudes and dudesses..
But some peep's should start experimentin for theyselves instead of buggin' humble MPC cats about how this guy did this and how that guy did that..
just sayin..

True. While I respect Dilla highly, double tempo sequencing had existed even before MPC. I don't even think Dilla would've call it his technique, although he might have sequencing that way.

I'm confused, are guys referring to for example, all my beats are made at lets say 180 bpm 32 bars, but are really 90 bpm at 16 bars? if so that's not a "dilla" trick at all. Most ppl I know do their tracks like that, helps with the ppq
