Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

Hello all. I've been passing external signals into the 4k while in record mode. Using q-fx I can get a input thru to fx so...

Does anyone know if it is possble to route the incoming audio straight into a program bypassing the rec page? There is nothing obvious in the pgm kg mix, multi mix or mixer sections.

I would like this functionality for using a track on the 4k as a sequencing fx unit. Being able to route audio into a pgm and have it under the control of the q-link and q-link sequence would be great for coming up with stuff pre record.

I don't really use the mpc for recording as I find sample preparation far easier in a daw environment. I'd like to record the results of my, as yet, imaginary sequencing fx box to the computer, prep it and back to the mpc etc etc...

Don't think it's possible, buy a cheap kaoss pad or other fx unit

I think I have to concur, it doesn't look to be a possibility... shame really, could be a very useful feature.

Workaround: Although not ideal, you can play input tracks over material already recorded/sequenced whilst in record mode and use either of the q-fx command or q-fx FX modes (but not both at the same time) to effect incoming audio in real time.

Realistically this is only good for what it is intended for... preparing samples for recording into the 4k. Alas, it would seem there will be no sequencing of parameters for input tracks in real time :(

One point to be made here, you can route external audio into most other percussion units these days, eg: The elektron md has an 'input machine' while the radikal spectralis allows extensive routing of external audio into its various filters. Its seems to me that akai missed a trick by leaving this functionality out as the 4k could be used as a great sequencing fx unit as well
