Program Building/Sharing project

Okay was thinking the other day about synths and how most of the old school ones only have a few patches that I actually like..this led me into thinking sampling the patches I like accross the whole keyboard and having them as programs in the 4K.

For instance if I sampled every keyboard note in the MO-PHAT (EMU) drum module - then made it into a program I wouldn't have to turn it on etc....and it would be stupid easy to just open up the program in the 4K

Then I started thinking some more...uh oh.
What if we all go together and pooled that shit for download - maybe make it so you don't get the mediafire download code till you've added your set of 5. Because really why would you want to go giving away all your best sounds for no payback - that just ain't right.

I.E. I could do some JUNO 106 Bass. Some MKS 70 pads, The Alesis stage piano from the QSR etc etc
Keen to get some real rhodes, real piano etc...


Anyone else down with this idea? - any technical advice/parameter ideas for making this concept successful and easy to use? How long should the duration be on the notes etc.....

I can't see this happening realistically until after Xmas...and Oh yeah....have a good one.

I think there's probably far too many variables to satisfy everyone in terms of note length and all the parameters that are available on a synth. For example I'd gladly offer some patches off my Korg R3 but they're tweaked to absolute death and often rely on the use of the hardware in conjunction with the patch to get the most out of the sound.

We also have to consider the quality of the samples being collected. Some people might have very expensive interfaces with high-quality pre-amps, others might not. Which is no fault of their own but obviously quality has to be considered for this to work.

In regards to giving the sounds away without any return, there's people who do that on here anyway with dedicated websites. IMO It's also a bit unfair to limit those people who would contribute but simply can't afford the hardware.

It's not a bad idea, it will just take some serious organising. In all fairness if you're looking for Rhodes and piano sounds you'd be better off with a google search. I think if you want this to work you will probably have to lead by example.

yeah I'm ready to step up - let's talk technical then.

Okay lets say I want to do some bass patches.
Find and tweek a dope patch then


1. Record the whole key board range into protools. (Let's say a two second duration for each note )
2. Make cuts in protools
3. Export wav files into 4K
4. Create a new program and assign each sample to consective buttons (this is where some input is needed)
5. Save program with samples - correctly labelled etc...

Repeat process building up a set within a folder - export folder to mediafire for download....

I reckon it would take me about 30 minutes realistically to do this...


I am definately no expert on keygroups and I feel like I may have shuffled around the notes within my 4k as in keygroup mode - the buttons don't currently correspond to consecutive notes on a keyboard or module - how do i fix this? So that the keygroup i make will be laid out correctly for anyone that downloads it?

Okay just to show and proof I've made one - took me far longer than i would have liked....

these are the steps i took -

turned on the mpc set the beat to 80 bpm, recorded into the sampler holding the note for 3.5 beats (so that the notes would have the same duration more or less).

This gave me one long sample of all the samples...

trimmed each sample and adjusted the start to remove pops. (this took along time....)
(I think it would have been way quicker if I had recycle too create akp files- but i don't .....)

assigned each sample to consecutive pads using program assign - this part was easy.

Created a folder and saved the program with samples onto usb stick.

Used compressor (which you will need to download the samples) to create a file that I could upload to mediafire....

I experimented with chopping in protools - but was not a good way to get the samples back into the mpc and assign them to program...this wasted about 45 minutes of time....


Yo fellas - can someone else have a crack and find a better way to do this.
Region slice wasn't really working as had too many samples to cut to region.

Also I don't like the way that the notes in my program don't correspond correctly to the notes on a keyboard (which would be dope if you were triggering the mpc from a midi keyboard) - but this was a bit beyond me - what I'm trying to say is would be cool if the samples were labbelled in key - my musical skills weren't really up to this...

anyhow - simple bass program there for one and all to download - merry xmas!

Have you ever tried converting soundfonts into AKPs?

in logic, under 'audio' there is a function called 'strip silence' that i use to do this on a daily basis.

it is not as quick or easy as you think (i think youve realised this).

you can also sample every other key to cut the time and memory in half. some sounds will allow you to get by with even more.

don't think that protools allows conversion into akps? is there another way or some conversion software i'm missing? and unfortunately I don't have strip silence mode in pro tools - I think that melodyne can help with the trimming.

who else want to make and share a program of something?

you dont have to sample anything.
