MPC 4000 voice question

Hello fellow MPC heads.

I just made the switch from using the mpc 2500 for the last few years to the mpc 4000. First of all, I have owned and made trax with the MPC 60, 2kxl, 2500, 1000, and now on to the main event...the lusty 4000. My first impression is that the samples sound very snappy/punchy...way better sound quality than the 2500/1000...and I think I can finally shelf my emu e6400 for filtering/modulation/keygroups etc. This 4000 is a BEAST.

Anyway, I cannot seem to figure out how to emulate a couple things that I came to rely on in the 2500. I want to set an entire program to 1 voice (or mono polyphony) so that when I trigger samples on the different pads that previous sample is muted when i press the next pad.

Secondly, how do I set the sample on a pad to play from start to finish (in a program) without using the amp envelope release parameter.

To answer the first question,
In the program screen, under the PITCH function, the poly setting all the way to the right should be set to '1'. A fast way to do all the samples in the program would be to set the EDIT parameter and the top of the screen to ALL, then adjust the setting, the rest of the program will follow suit.

Second question,
The only to places you can change those setting are A.) in the SAMPLE EDIT window, or B.) the ZONE menu under the PROGRAM screen.

This is all to my off-hand knowledge, as I am not in front of my machine ATM. I could be a tad bit off.

Thanks for your reply.

However, my issue is not resolved. I know how to limit each sample's polyphony to 1, but I am still trying to figure out how to limit a whole program's polyphony to 1.

I want to set up a program to be able to stop the current sample being played when another sample is triggered from the same program.

I appreciate anyone's input on this.

hey lampdog... thanks for getting at me.

Based on your chiming in by quoting mike boogie's reply... I guess the answer to my question is "it can't be done on the mpc 4000". This is a shame as I found it very useful to limit a programs polyphony to 1 voice. By limiting program polyphony to 1 you can switch between samples or loops without having to worry about sample length.

Bummer.

it sure can be done to the whole program at once.

just try a little harder or consult your manual

OK, good to know that it can be done.

To avoid further games of cat and mouse, someone want to do me a favor and tell me how it is done?

I have consulted the manual, and have tried very long and hard to achieve this...to no avail.

I think there is some misunderstanding here. I am not trying to change each sample's polyphony to 1 inside the program. I am trying to limit the "program" polyphony to 1 voice. Mike Boogie's solution was to turn each sample's poly to 1 via "edit all". Then this solution has been quoted a few time since. Just trying to clarify here. thanks.

What you are looking for is MUTE GROUPS!!!

Thanks a lot. Mute groups does the trick!

MPC 2500 implements this in a different way that is slightly better (being able to assign sample to mono or poly, as well as, being able to set programs to mono or poly), but MPC 4000 key groups gets me there and is small sacrifice for the all the other 4000 greatness.

hmmm I've had the 4K 1 day and I know how to solve the OP's problem. He is looking for the program to be monophonic, that is the correct terminology.

Program --> Misc --> Polyphonic Notes --> 1

done.
