"Disc Read Error???" WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

someone please please help me here, im freakin' out!

basically, jus went to load up some samples from the same zip disc i use day in - day out, and when i hit the load screen is said "disc read error".......

ive tried loading an older zip disc and its fine, so im thinking that my zip is now F*cked! (this is the zip which is not backed up and has pretty much every beat/sample i have made in the past 8 months on it)

does any one have any idea how i could possibly retrieve any of the data? i was thinking maybe hooking the zip drive up to a computer and seeing if it will read it or something????? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! THE PAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALL MY BEATS GONE FOREVER????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!


or alternatively, does anyone know if i could send the disc to a data recovery company?

and how the hell can u back up a zip disc ? do u have to connect it to ur computer cuz i dont have a scsi port on my pc to do so!

please help take this pain away!

What's the size of the .Pgm you're trying to load off? I'm asking cuz tonight for the first time i had the same "disk read error" while I was loading my .Pgm ... Like you it's where I saved much every drums sounds, tones in gl... a 250Mo ZIP ...
I've tryed to load different .Pgm from THE SAME ZIP and its work fine!
The fact is that, I was loading a fully/heavy drum .Pgm (64 samples) and it wouldn't load the 4 final sounds ... I load dem 1 after 1 replaced dem on .Pgm and resaved the whole .Pgm on the same ZIP ...
It seems to work fine now... So I even don't know where the problem's comming from ... I'm just gwan do a RW-CDROM from my ZIP ...
Afterall a ZIP disk is nothing else than a BBBIIIGGGG FFFLLLLLOOPPPYY!
After a long time of use it can have damage...

Try it in other zip drives. If someone you know has an MPC see if theirs can read it. If anything does read it... it could be another MPC, it could be a computer, load everything to that then save all that data.

A data recovery service should be your last resort because they are really expensive. They take advantage of your desperate situation & charge you extra!!!!!

Back-ups: even just recording all your new sounds so if necessary you can re-sample them is a basic way of doing things.

The prob with mine is that its not reading the disk at all!!!!

i cant even get to the stage of loading a pgm as as soon as i hit load it says "disc read error"....

ive now managed to hook up my zip drive to my pc, but my pc wont recognise the zip format (im guessing cuz its mpc formatted).

Does anyone know if there is a program i could use on my pc that will let me (hopefully) read my zip disc?? That way i could dump the content of my zip onto my pc, and back that shit up!

What kind of drive u got, internal? If yes, I can't say if it's a drive issue...
If external, I will much say it's a ZIP disk issue... Finaly after redone my Pgm, my MP still nah load the 64 sounds in a row... It stop loading at the 60th sound so I have to load the others 1 by 1...
What's making say it could be a disk issue is that I've load samr Pgm on an other ZIP and MP just load ALL 64 sounds fine !
With regard to a soft that allow you to read your MPC format ZIP, I'm not sure but try the ChickenSys Translator, or MPC Pgm Maker but I don't know if you can import MPC formated sounds... but it should!

its an external, and im sure it IS my zip as i can load up other zip discs fine!

where can i find the mpc pgm maker program? jus had a quick search in google but could only find it for mac (im runnin a pc!)

any ideas?

easy dudy, I said bout ChickSys & the soft you wrote, that i was thinkin he could load/read his ZIP datas by using them. If not... sorry, just try to give a help. And I event don't use dem both soft...

i DLed the MPC editor and it wont read my mpc discs (any of them, not just my busted one)......

so about this free estimate??

I would not know until I checked the disks.

I use the MPCEditor. Backing up disks is not the same as being able to read them on your PC. In order to read MPC disks from your PC, you would have to format them in the proper way first.

Ok, im now starting fresh with a new zip disc...

i've formatted it in the MPC editor, then i have created a program and exported it, along with the sounds in 2000xl format to the zip.

when i hit the load screen in my mpc, it shows me the folder in which i have saved the program and sounds, but crashes as soon as i try to get inside the folder...

any ideas why this is happening?? possibly out of date operating system?

BTW - my operating system is 1.14

i jus checked the akai pro site and this is the only operating system availible for download...

Ok......quick update....

i have just upgraded my iomega tools (from the link in the mpc editor manual) - and it only said that my zip disc had 29 megs (rather than 250!) so i then re-formatted the disc using the MPC/XP formatter - and now the zip drive isnt recognising the zip disc.

I then tryed to export a program and sounds created from the mpc editor and it said there was an error (#52).

.......ahhhh! could u talk me through the process at which it works for you, as i have tried how it says in the manual and it isnt working!
