Yeah, these days it's getting harder to ignore the fact that this combination is really good... especially with the Animoog. I gotta find a good deal on a used iPad eventually, since the price of a new one would make me go and buy Slim Fatty or another hardware synth instead.

Moog Filtatron

i used it to sample from this weekend off my ipad in Alesis io along with animoog ... so dope

I've been making some dope beats with MPC 5k and Animoog (rigged into my setup via Alesis IO Dock ). Really ill combo. I have the Korg iMS20 (i think thats the name), moog filtatron and a few others too on my ipad. But Animoog is another world of its own. So expressive. Amazing sound quality really hard to believe its from an ipad. and for 99 cents..??!!! It's probably the illest synth I've had (appware, software or hardware). I'd say if you have an ipad and can only get one synth (though not likely since they are all mostly a couple dollars) I would recommend the Animoog.

I will upload some beats made with it soon on my sound cloud. i will post when they are loaded.

I'm not a big user of my phone generally speaking, although this app is a f*cking steal at 69p at the moment.

Got the iPhone version, lost an hour right away just trying it out... Then I took it to a session with two friends, played Animoog & MPC, great results!

Do this. Animoog is interesting and very logical. It's interesting that you can set parameters as you slide your finger up a note, essentially aftertouch but without it being velocity sensitive.

Don't do this. At the end of the day these iDevices are fun but don't get caught up in the hype. Hardware will always have quirks and personality, and let me assure you old iPhones and iPads will saturate ebay much longer than anything you decide to sell to fund it. So sit tight. At the end of the day all an iPad or iPhone is, is a tiny computer. You might aswell just use VSTs on your computer setup and have infinitely more power at your fingertips if you're going to flog off your gear.

Good thing is that iPad 1 for musician is perfect, no need to get the newer model. Should be pretty easy to find a 2nd hand for a reasonable price.

Music apps (TouchOSC, Animoog, iMS20, iElectribe..) are the only reason I have one

Just got an iPod Touch and a bunch if apps. Animoog is on sale for $1.99 (iPhone/Ipod Touch) and $2.99 for the iPad until the 7th or 8th, and there's some pack of farts called the BASE PACK, which is cheesy. But now it allows more sounds through the Animoog shop built into the app. I'm grabbing that iRig MIDI soon and be good to throw a few new synths into the existing production environment.

Extra content through the app can be so annoying at times. What else have you got Distorted?

Did you check out Nanostudio or something similar yet? I think you'd enjoy that. I will also recommend the Tenori-on app although it's expensive for what it is.

Thanks for the recommendations Scoob. i'm definitely getting Nanostudio next time I'm able to get another iTunes card. Just went through a $50 card on Tuesday because I owed Apple money. Last month I downloaded Mainstage 2 for the Mac for $30. For some reason, it didn't charge to my debit card. So when I bought the apps for the iPod Touch, I saw a balance of $32 and had to take care of that before I could download anything. So that $50 card went fast. I bought Animoog, Filtatron, Akai Synth Station, Propellerhead ReBirth and their new app Figure. Then I downloaded Alchemy, which is free and allows you to buy add-ons. I like this type of business model. Moog is doing it now with the Animoog, and IK Mulitimedia is doing that as well with Amplitube 3 for PC/Mac/iPad/Ipod Tocuh. Being able to buy only what you need and be able to try it first is definitely awesome. Propellerhead will be doing the same with Reason 6.5 for their ReRack extensions.

Honestly, I feel like there's never been a better time than now to be in the midst of all these goodies for a fraction of the cost of their hardware equivalents. Aside of that, I had some birthday money to spend. so I thought to myself "Hey, lets buy an iPod or a Monotribe". I chose the iPod since the weather is nice again. I can have a more reliable MP3 player than my shitty LG phone, better camera and everything. I could've bought an iPhone. But the problem is that there's too much current draw on the battery between apps and pulling in a wireless signal. Plus I'd have to pay for a data plan. So it was a no-brainer.

As for the Monotribe, I know all too well that I'll never get around to modding it until the winter. But I'll pick one up then and control it with Korg's free app. However, I really should get my friend Steve down here with the one he just bought. I'm curious if I can sync the Monotribe to my x0xb0x using the x0x's Gate Out to Monotribe's sync input and still run tight. It's easy to mod the Monotribe for MIDI. But I like being able to experiment with CV/Gate I/Os when I have the opportunity.
My studio is mainly software these days (Mac Mini, Reason 6, iPod Touch synths). But I still keep my eyes open for small, affordable analogue kits to use with the x0xb0x, as well as the entire DAW setup. Speaking of that, I'm looking forward to buying the IK Multimedia iRig MIDI, and I'll have everything fully integrated.

How's the Rebirth app on a Touch? I've been thinking about having a dabble, but there seems to be far too many controls and not enough screen. That was my one frustration with the TNR-i app.

I have a Monotribe too, the latest firmware update was absolutely sick! Such a great little box for the price. I pray they keep releasing budget analogue gear like this, and hopefully one or two more high end pieces aswell.
