my mpc's new look

koncept came over a week ago and we spent some time putting in ALPS tact switches into his MPC2500 and my 1000. i decided to keep going and give my MPC a new look to correspond with my upcoming albums - kind of a new chapter in my career as a producer. many of you may remember the "post apocalypse" paint job i had before - i'd allowed it to rust up underneath the clearcoat and generally look rugged as all hell.

well, this time i decided to go the opposite - so here's my 1000 looking clean, sleek and sharp as broken glass.











despite my original hesitation i may replace all the LEDs with blue lights to complete the ice look. does anyone know if the flashing MODE button LED flashes because it's a flashing LED or does it get turned on/off via the software?

edit, i just realized it looks a lot like a SP404 - makes me want one again haha

Looks good Nym. All the LEDs are the same. You don't need a flashing LED for the MODE buttons or anything like that. Also, the REC, OVERDUB, and PLAY LEDs are the same size. I bought all those from the dude who first brought us the blue LCD display (needlewerk.com... sold his stuff to mpc-stuff, i believe).
Yeah, go blue all the way, considering you got the blue display. Try some really fine emery cloth if you wanna smooth out the surface of the housing. But do it by hand. It may or may not help. But it won't hurt.... and buy some wood sides for that machine! It's worthy of wood sides!

Funny thing is I've been thinking about picking one up for years. I'm sure the second-hand prices look good, and having a battery powered sampler would definitely be useful to me in terms of portable experimentation. If I can find one cheaper than a new iPod touch 8gb ($200), I'll be happy as shit.

Yeah bro, if you got all the tools there and the time, do it up. You need to make metal brackets, unless there's places for screws on the sides (thought I've seen that somewhere on the forums).

spent most of the day today building wooden sides for my mpc. i decided to forget trying to use the existing screw slots/etc and just dremelling holes into the frame of my mpc. i'll connect it using old looking bolts or something.

for the wood, i'm using something very special. i have used it before. it's "crib dam oak" - ancient oak from the mid 1800s (i think) which was used to build a dam in the Rappahannock river (flows through fredericksburg, virginia. civil war town). they eventually built a hydroelectric dam overtop the crib dam. when they took that out, my dad collected tons of this preserved oak, which had been stained a dark black/greyish by the water/time. it is very unique and beautiful looking wood.

i'm doing it all by hand (except some of the sanding, when i'll use a belt sander. as a result, while chiseling, i chiseled the christ out of my right middle finger. very deep wound, bled like crazy and has been for hours. stitch worthy, but it's small enough that it doesnt need them. i'm waiting for some epoxy to set right now so i can start polishing and shaping them.

please tell me you took some pics during the process...
