The 1st one looks like i can plug the 3.5 ribbon cable str8 into it,then sata out to the new drive.

The 2nd one well i opened up the 5k to see if i could plug directly into the board but looks like theres not enough room, theres the 8out board right on top of it like maybe 1/4" space between boards, would be nice to bypass the cable.

Imma just get a 500gb sata drive cant afford a ssd now, money is too low.

There is plenty of room even when using a bracket. BTW you don't have to mount the SSD because it has no moving parts. I've watch your finds on Ebay. I'm just not a fan of those extra powerplugs and the 40pin has no protection around it.

Got an SSD drive on the way to throw in the 5k. Any pointers would be appreciated. I'll order the parts once I have the drive here.

Thanks!

Speed is always linked to the slowest device. Your SSD will never realize it's full potential while connected to your mpc motherboard and/or the IDE buss and/or the mpc cpu.

2 million hours mean time between failures (mtbf), means, 2mil hours of expected life in your ssd.

I can't help you beyond that.

No doubt, not looking for a speed increase on the MPC. I'm pretty much just looking to get rid of the drive noise/buzz I feel on the machine when the drive is spinning (always). Kinda lame you can't spin down the drive like the 4k. I guess I could disconnect the HD and just use the card reader, but what fun would that be?

I have 3 macs with SSD boot drives so I have a little experience with them.Guess I should have asked for tips on what IDE to SATA I should be using. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Oh ok, my bad, I didn't know you knew already, lol.

What it is that you were wondering about ide and sata i ?

I'm just wondering which ide to sata adapter people are using that will fit inside the MPC's drive compartment.

Oh damn, that one, I don't know. Hopefully someone else doing that will chime in.

Also bought it for noise reasons and no moving parts. There is plenty of room inside the 5k. Any adapter will fit. If you're ssd is EIDE you don't need an adapter...

The operation was a success, here are the details. :D

Parts:

1: Icydock 2.5" To 3.5" Ssd/sata Converter
2: BYTECC IDE Adaptor IDE to SATA Converter
3: 128GB Toshiba SSD Drive.

Right on! I think the expense was worth it, my ikea desk that I want to sit the 5k on no longer resonates from drive spin! :)

First thing I did was remove the hard drive. I was planning to change the fan, but a little bit of W40 did the job.

so, now that it's been a year + with SSD drives being used in the 5000... how is it holding up? any issues with corruption or data allocation issues in the drive itself? for the hard disk recording, is it running smooth and "streaming" properly?

I am guessing so, but not many people really updated or mentioned anything after prolonged proven use.

Things like that won't change with an SSD. Since purchase I had two, maybe three freezes and one reinstall in the very beginning. That's good overall. Thing is I'm not stressing the MPC(repeat button pressing etc. etc.) or other stuff you know the 5000 can't handle(too hight BPM bug etc. etc.).

can you play 8 'hard drive tracks' from your SSD ?
