Hey guys, so i recently got a used mpc 2500, had broken pins in the memory card slot so i replaced that whole pcb board for the headphone/memory card slot, and was desperately hoping that was the issue, now it still says wrong card, with just my random sandisk 4gb card i got from radioshack, have tried booting it holding erase button, and window button, just not sure what to do next. i know this has been talked about several times on these forums but no conclusions have been helpful to me so far
my last hope is to order the original akai OS cf card and try booting it straight from there ( no card reader for my pc )
just super bummed i dropped a whole paycheck on this thing and cant even get it going. any help would be super appreciated

fat is the format of the storage medium...if you dont got it formatted using correct format for particular device "wrong card" will happen...the packaging wouldnt specify this because you can set it to whatever format you want it...btw I just re-read your original question...mpc 2500 doesnt boot from cf card...

oh really? so whats my next step? i have an akai cf card coming in the mail to try and install the akai os etc, other than that i'm not sure how to get my card into fat format, i don't have a card reader for my laptop or anything so im just kinda waitin on the akai cf card praying it will magically make it work

get yourself a usb card reader, seriously, the transfer times are much faster than sending files over usb, and these days they read multiple formats so you can use one to read your sd cards etc as well. some may even read your smart media cards.

they only cost a couple bucks too.

once you've got that, hook it up to your pc and format it to fat not ntsf.

also i think i read somewhere that sending jjos over usb wont work, dunno why, i might be wrong but i'm pretty sure i read that on jj's website.

no problem...radio shack got them, frys, best buy, office depot they all over....as far as formatting, have you tried formatting inside the mpc or wont even do that ? if it dont then computer and card reader it is

wait,...

it starts up without the cf card right?

atleast it should.

mpc's dont boot from cf cards, cf cards are just for storage, so you should be able to start up, sample something and play that on the pads.

So i just got an original akai cf card in the mail that I ordered and still not working, still can't boot it up holding erase or windows or any of that, pretty bummed. headed out to get a usb cf card reader from radio shack right now.

I'm not sure what version OS the previous user had installed, when i start it up it just says mpc2500 os update, wrong card !!

and when i boot it without a cf card in at all, it just says "insert memory card!"
I wish i could boot it up and play with it even without a cf card but it really wants a working card in there. thanks guys, peace
