M-AUDIO quattro is awesome

Sorry to hear that it is not working with your Mac. I've been using it with OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard.) I haven't upgraded to Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion), so it is possible that the driver is not compatible anymore.
Make sure Quattro is directly connected to your Mac, not with a USB hub. Use System Profiler to make sure that your Mac "see" Quattro on a USB bus.
(I'm pretty sure you know this, but Quattro requires external AC adapter, it is not a bus powered device.)

If you have Windows PC laying around, install the driver for Windows and connect Quattro to see if it works or not.

hmm strange... the system profiler doesn't list the quattro - as far as I can see.... hmm but when the macbook is in standby mode and i turn the quattro on/off - other usb controllers begin to light up?! so it should be connected in anyway...?!

yeah all the other conditions are given - no usb hub, its powered and so on....

i dont have an other computer right now here...:S

Don't expect support from M-Audio, it is officially a legacy product, which means they won't help troubleshoot anyway, even if you are lucky enough to get attention from M-Audio customer service staff.
Again, most likely you know this already, but the unit has on/off button on the right, does the red LED lit when it is on?
Also make sure that AC adapter is compatible with Quattro, as you might have received a incompatible AC adapter.
Of course, there is a possibility that your Quattro is already dead, I hope that's not a case, but it is a quite possible that you got a dead unit.
At this point, your Quattro is not mounted on your Mac, it is not even driver issue. Quattro must be seen on "System Profiler." If your Quattro is in working condition, you'll see Quattro listed on "System Profiler", with or without right driver.

I don't have my Quatrro with me, so I can't cay how it appears on System Profiler, but you will see something like "USB audio interface" or something like that, in USB bus.

If you don't even see that on your Mac, your Quatrro may be broken...
It must show up on System Profiler, as all the connected devices shows up on the list.

Thanks again to Nym...Just hooked up the Quattro to the new (rebuilt) laptop for my mobile setup. Grabbed on craigslist a MPD26 ($100) and a M-audio O2 25key for $20 and the Quattro for $35 on ebay lol. I made the mistake and didnt thinki to research the quattros compatibility with windows 7...uh oh luckily theres asio4all...whew it saved the day. It works great with hardly any latency!!! just slapped reason 5 and reaper 4 on that baby and have been good to go.

It is possible that Quattro does not work with OS X Lion. I hope that's not the case though.
Other possibility is the on/off push switch has been worn out, making your unit unstable. I've replaced all 7 push switches (all same parts for 7 switches) on Quattro by myself.

Yeeeeeeah - i found a solution!!^^

So, I started my MB in 32bit kernel mode and voilà, its regognized and I can choose all ins and outs.... But.... ...i have no Sound on the Outputs?!?!:(

Hmm.... I tried everything my stupid brain gave me.... But I cant get it..

theres a button on the front you press to hear the sound....

make sure your sound output device is also set to quattro

yes. i did have that error many a time. but ever since i got my mackie onyx 1220i firewire mixer i've had my quattro set aside just for backup/portable use though...
