Creating midi from audio?

I heard about plugins that could do this years ago but I never had a need for one until now. I've basically got a kick drum loop in Cubase that's chopped up for variation throughout the track, but the midi part has gone walkies and I want to add additional layers to the kick... preferably without having to draw each note in.

Any suggestions?

Don't want to sound arrogant, but the MV can do this.

I was hoping for a cheaper and more streamlined solution. With recycle I would still need to export the entire stem first. I'll search around when I'm back at the lab.

Ahh when you said loop I thought it might be something more manageable.

Actually I just realised, Ableton can do this too.

I imagine Cubase can do it too. I'll report back when I've sussed it...

you can do this easily.
in reaper with JS effects, or any daw using the JS to VST wrapper

here's how. install reaper and find the JS effect called "drumtrigger"
add the drum track to your daw and then duplicate it (or duplicate the input from your MPC if you're using your MPC to trigger drums)
use an EQ or filter to isolate the drum you're trying to layer
add the drumtrigger js effect and then tweak the threshold/retrigger settings to get your desired midi note.
then route the midi note to a sampler triggering your layer.

As you know, aligning audio to another audio part is child's play, but it's a trickier beast doing the same by hand with midi. Especially if said note information is heavily swung and nudged around in milliseconds.
