MPC3000 w CF-Cardreader - not recognized...

I am leaning towards the same myself. Would a reasonable skilled, but "ordinary" technician be able to figure out what is broken, and replace it? Any clues about where to start searching?

Yes, just give him the service manual and description of fault.

To spot a blown fuse , the inner contact will be broken and there may be discolouration on the glass.
If it''s a capacitor that's blown, it's insides should be leaking out.

even though its not the cause of the blow by sounds of it, but also get your scsi fuse replaced with POLY scsi fuse while the guy is in there, again this is meant to be a simple thing for a technician to do its been said... just means the SCSI fuse in future will not blow, just reset. standard scsi fuse in 3000 is meant to be lame, and at risk when installing CF drive etc

also, double check if anything obvious has popped out of its socket inside, cables near the pads or boards, shutting the lid might have snagged something.
