I think it would be particularly useful for drum grid edit

i LOVE this. compare this to the preschool font used in the factory AKAI os. it's hilarious. "My First Sony Akai MPC"
I understand what you are saying but a screen that's 1.5" X 5.25" sure adds to his limitations.

i love the small font! i don't think it's ugly. i think it looks cool and it's quite readable.

I'm with you fam...my MPC 3000LE all the way, however I have the 3.11 OS. I think I'll stick with it, I've emailed the guy about his Mansell 3.5 OS & haven't heard back, so I'm good. Will get an internal scsi zip drive though (250mb) and keep the port in the back also.

right on ! i am also using 3.11 OS and its simple and robust - never had a crash unlike with JJ OS 2XL 3.x
However when i am trying to save/load files on the 100/250 Zip disk
MPC3000 3.11 OS can only access 1st A partition.... 80MB ... witch i find a waste of space on the Zip disks and a limitation of AKAI OS 3.11.
So the Vailixi OS addresses that issue and opens access to all partitions on the ZIP/SCSI disks ... witch is the only attractive option for me.
I have contacted Vailixi OS programmer, and got a nice reply in email 'bout a year ago...
but still haven't made up my mind about purchasing it...
have slight reservations and doubts if the Swing/Timing or anything else from the original OS would be affected.
but probably i should just go for it ?
As for MPC1000 & JJ OS.... i used to love it in its earlier versions... but the more
features were added lately especially with the OS2XL 3.x , the more fragile MPC1000 has become?

Wow I haven't heard of that limitation, is yours int or ext zip drive? If internal, did you diy? You ever notice the more they add to something...the more it takes away-hate that. Hey, gimme my 3000LE, 4000, Ghost 24, Logic, my Korg boards, EMU modules & LET'S GO...!!!!

Sorry for a late reply , been busy...
Actually i was wrong to say that MPC3000 OS 3.11 cannot access all partitions on the ZIP disk , it alcually CAN but you have to select from the beginning witch one you want to access my MOUNT a partition... the limitation is that if you want your computer ( Mac OSX in my case ) to mout that zip disk OSX ( Windows too?)
will only read 1st 80mb partition A , so Vailixi OS addresses that issue and let
user access all SCSI partitions on their computers.
its only ineteresting for ppl who constantly swap Zip disks between MPC3000 and their PC's.
peace

Hi to all JJ OS users
been a while that i've used my MPC1000...
been mostly on MPC3000LE + SP1200/S950 combo
noticed that JJ releases OS updates faster than i can even adopt their new features .
What's , in your opinion ,
The Most stable /crash proof version of JJOS 2XL that you've used?

this is kind of exotic but realtime MIDI control - using CCs - of some things:
> control of start-end points on sample playback ie. (loop & hold/1-shot) or just the start (note on). Some of this is already do-able with Qlinks etc. Heh I want it added in multitimbral mode - ie. per MIDI-channel. Hey I can dream...
> same sort of MIDI CC control assignable to some parameters in Programs, like LFO speed/depth - this could be setup with a screen like the current MIDI map keys/values to buttons, mixer etc.
The amount of coding work involved & processor speed of the MPC 1/2.5k for both of these probably rules this kind of thing out but I wouldn't actually care if there was a bit of glitchy-ness when values get changed.
- when JJ added MIDI-control of the track mixer I stopped using a laptop to play out (for some slow-layered kind of stuff I was doing). Similar with loop & hold (I've done some sets where I never even pressed 'play').

Practical: Independent control/routing of MIDI inputs, "virtual" MIDI input from one of the MIDI output ports (for controlling FX and controlling buttons w/ MIDI patterns)
Indulgent:
- More synth-like features: multiple LFOs per pad, LFOs that don't have to reset on note-on, steeper/more intense envelope/LFO control, independent envelopes/LFOs for each layer in INST mode, mod matrix, MIDI control of synth params
- Sampling improvements: improved looping algorithm so melodic samples don't sound wack on the high notes, sample start/loop-start/loop-length/loop-end as mod matrix destinations, ability to sample & playback automatically as part of a sequence
- Sequencer: different sequence lengths per track, be able to start track playback independently, improve pattern functionality (fix 4/4 bar limitation, make pattern creation more intuitive, make pattern-pad assignment more intuitive or devise a new trigger method that doesn't consume pads globally), make the step-sequencer more intuitive and hands-on and jammable in MIDI mode for making melodies, improve arp/chord functions (chord spread timing, more jammable)
I guess I should just get an Octatrack

a connection between current sequence bpm and trim mode, to enable cutting and slicing in beats and bar lengths. a way to double and halve the loop length, and anything else useful for manipulating blocks of audio which are beats and bars long.
enable launching of patterns/samples at the next beat/bar.
a bit more like abletons clips in session view.

I would like to see a JJ OS for either the 2000 or the 500 so I don't have to go buy a 1000 to use JJ. Any hope for that?
