With all the inputs and screen it has to be standalone

But Akai cant even come up with decent updates for their current line of MPCs.
So what makes you think they can handle a PC/ Mac software plus a MPC OS at the same time???

i think it has imputs because it's a controller + audio interface...

about the screen must say every controller has one... this is a real big one because they recycled other mpc screens or something

that's true... i cant wait to see the second version of this thing, this one is way to big IMO. it would be kind by akai to make an update for the latest mpc's to work with the new software. at least i would like to see the rec button finally work on midi...

love my 5k, works great by me... but ok i had the 500 before. you know there's people that registered themself on this forum after 2006 too

Well being that the 2500 is the big brother of the 1000
And...

Since this one took old parts from the 2500, I would expect the mini version will be made out of old parts from the 1000.

I would dare to say most of the MPC-Forums visitors that have posted negative views of the 5K have never owned one. I don't expect this behavior to change over night.

now that i think about it good thing about this new mpc(ontroller) is that the 5k owners now have something to hate

My thoughts:

First off, this is obviously the logical next step for Akai, and it's a positive one. I really don't see a problem with the concept at all. If they nail both the hardware and software, then it will be a fantastic piece of kit.

However, as many people have already pointed out, this is Akai we're talking about. Most 5000 users, myself included, have been sitting around for the past few years waiting for an update to the existing bugs in OS 2.0 - instead we get a new MPC and no bug fixes for the 'flagship'.

So, how are they going to cope with managing bugs over three platforms (Mac, PC and the controller firmware)? If we have to wait 2 or 3 years for a round of bug fixes (if at all), as per previous MPCs, I think this product will die a very quick death.

I'd like to see some kind of public statement about their bug fixing policy on this product. They need a dedicated 'bug fixing team' who are in there to support the product for the long haul and fix bugs promptly. What I don't want to see is the usual; new 'flagship' released, a few glaring bugs fixed, then everyone gets shipped off to the new product development.

It's all fine and dandy having lots of cool marketing vids, micro site and countdown timers blah blah blah, but for me I want to know what kind of support and ongoing development I'm buying into.

So to be a real 'maschine killer', not only do they have to mimick (and improve upon) NI's product, they have to at least match NI's fantastic product development cycle and support. I really hope they do, because this could be a very exciting product.

Im the same way about it... If Akai could actually get their shit together this would be cool other than the name and ugly design.
