For those that know and you know who you are! I see the mystery is now over; however, could you guys give a comparison of the sequencing, swing and shift functions, resolution, sampling engine, timeslicing, audio and midi editing, program matrix and sample editing functions of the mpc renaissance vs a legacy mpc say a mpc 5000 or mpc 2500.

I'm curious though I know the renaissance hardware is basically a controller/sound card hybrid. My main interest is how well is the renaissance software OS compared to an actual mpc OS? This has been talked about for ages and it would be revolutionary indeed.

As for me I also use the apc40 with ableton and it is very well integrated with ableton live. How is the renaissance as a controller of third party daws like ableton too?

Like before the ones who know please respond you know who you are! 8)

Apples and oranges if it's a true comparison, but in terms of features we have to wait for full specs from Akai. Tonight hopefully.

I'd imagine the algorithms used for swing and such are he same though. Sound quality wise i.e. the emulation vs. the real 60 will differ that's for sure. By how much? Not sure until someone can actually run a comparison.

Also, it's likely it will be able to control third party VSTs such as battery, just acting as a midi controller sending midi messages. I'd see no reason why Akai would not allow this.

But, it's far to early to run any comparisons because there's only 1 video out and a small sample of information at the moment.

I think Blue Haze was asking for those that may know. You have the most posts in the MPC Ren forum...but you have no idea of what's in store. :P

1) At this moment in time nobody knows as much as anyone. I'm just as welcome to post as the next user (unless you work for Akai).

2) I have as much idea as you do. But based on the current specs it's easy to make justified guesses.

Now quit stomping in on my posts. Thank you.

Control of third party plugins means it could control maschine itself. Battery and other plugins already have mpc 60 emulation which is ehhh. I'm. A 4k user so that isn't my top concern. The hardware mpc are solid for their timing and swing. The 4k has great sampling manipulation. Some may know of these parts in comparison with the renaissance?

An akai OS on the computer vs an all in one box it quite a big deal.

It seems to be the end of the hardware sampler for sure. I'm keeping mine unit. But the akai sequencer in a computer is a game change if it is on the same level as an legacy unit. Many legacy mpc users sequence soft synths and daws with their legacy units.

About the best response I've seen on the Ren.

I know I talk negative about it. But I'm just trying to inform users that are misinformed. You are clearly informed :p

Hell, if the Ren does some damage I might even end up copping one. Just need to see how it matches up with the machine though first.

Can it work as a standalone sampler? I.e. do I have to be near a computer for it to be useful?

I think it would continue the hardware sampler duties. Reason being, why are there record input & line input jacks/ports on the rear?

To me it seems to be a do it all mpc. Capabilities that go farther than any of the current crop of mpc's...except for...drumroll please.

The inputs/outputs led me to initially think that, but then I started thinking to myself, "Wait, self, where are the media storage slots?"

Has to be hooked up to a computer bro. Sorry.

•Stereo 1/4” out, stereo assignable mix 1/4” out & S/PDIF I/O- which means it can be used as a stand alone. I wonder how much it weighs?
haze: I'm quite sure it works great with other software products, seeing their other midi pads and keyboards do.

Guys, you've been oh so faithfully duped by Akai. Their marketing worked. This was my whole argument about the Run.

The Run. has an audio interface built in. That's all. The ins, outs and midi are all related to the audio interface.

I think this is the problem... they've posted a crappy short video and slapped it on a crappy little micro site with no other useful information!

I'm with you though, it seems pretty obvious it's just a built in audio and midi interface.

Stop hating because I'm right lmao. My machine is under my desk. It's not been used since I was in a hotel 12 weeks ago.

Like I said, I hope the Run. is successful, but people need to stop falling for hype and assuming they are correct.
