Shame I don't have my studio in Birmingham anymore. Was literally round the back of DV too. Could have had a test. Let me know if you get one though can try hook up a tiny discount.

James you keep giving me more reasons to hate you man, you really pickin up tempest ? and you got OP1 too right ?

Yeah man. But note this is my last purchase. Officially broke after that. I've had to refactor my setup a bit and get rid of some toys I don't use or need such as the Koasillator and the other Virus is on sale.

I ended up getting a job in web development rather than running my own stuff so I can focus on my music more (I get 2 days off + weekends) and not have the stress of running a business. Personal choice but I'm 27, I need to get down with my passion ... music.

less is sometimes more, that's hella dope setup you got cooking up thou !

It would but I lost hopes for that machine! Roger can pull on the plug only for so long before shit turns off

my thoughts exactly thing looks cheapo as hell, something I'd be pick at toysRus for 5yr old naphew..

JAH wrote:Thanks but no thanks to an over priced drum machine. I will not pay $2000 just to create a drum pattern when an MPC can do it just fine. Analog synths is where my money would be better spent. I haven't heard or seen any demo that would make me want to part $2000 for the Tempest.

Jah how much did you spend on your first 2500, it was when they first dropped it was around the time when you had the mv   and that's just for a simple drum machine

I had to spend over $2000 to get the first ones shipped from Japan and quickly sold them on eBay for a profit. My personal unit I picked up for $1600. And the 2500 is a sampling drum machine and MIDI sequencer something Tempest is no where close to being. I have zero interest in getting a Tempest. Talking about demo...the sounds I heard Roger Linn playing sounded like a video game.

It won't be for a while unfortunately, but cheers for the offer. I'll PM you a bit nearer the time. 8)

JamesJeffery wrote:Tempest is nice man. I used one in a local store, spent about an hour on it. The hype around the Tempest is valid, and very real. The majority of the music scene is up in arms over it.

Oh yeah, I ain't denyin that. It's just that the Linn Drum 2 will be more like an MPC.

konc3pt wrote:It would but I lost hopes for that machine! Roger can pull on the plug only for so long before **** turns off

True, true, I'll give him a year though, because the tempest came out 2 months ago or something. If this shit doesn't come out in 2012 I don't know what to do anymore.

cant compare the two they are totally different. Id take a tempest over the new mp anyday. I dont want a controler, I want a tight sequencer. Id also keep my classic mpcs over the new one anyday. btw tempest is an anlog synth. all the good analog drum machines cost 2k and personally I think they are easily worth it. even an 808 is not a mpc replacement they are different creatures.

I was offered an 808. It really hurt me for days to turn it down. Just didn't feel like it was worth the spending, even though I know how much history are behind them. Probably one of the most sought after vintage hardware that just keeps increasing in price.

This comparison is not fair at all.
They are two completely different products.

maaaannn why yall gotta bust my chops bout this...we compare software to mpc all the time...maschine vs mpc., motubpm vs mpc, macbook vs mpc..how many times we been thru this, just let it slide okay

but truth to be told is my initial thought was that tempest was controlled by sofware in the same manner as the maschine or this toysRus edition of mpc series,..that's my baaaaaddd

Nobody's bad, lmao. It's human nature to compare stuff to other stuff.
But in reality you gotta look at the direct design of the compared items. Are they even in the same class to be compared to each other.

konc3pt wrote:macbook vs mpc

You jokin right? did someone actually do that?

Maschine vs Renaissance would be a perfect comparison as they are both designed to accomplish the same things and are clearly competing. Aren't they both trying to be controllers? I don't all the features of both though, maybe someone else can break that down or maybe has broken it down in another thread. Aiight, sorry, derailed for a second, never mind me.

JamesJeffery wrote:But it must be said the Tempest is an analogue drum machine. The MPController is just a controller that can't produce any sounds on its own.

You have no clue that its just a controller

Well everything is controlled by some proprietary of sorts, but the Tempest has dedicated analogue circuitry for its sounds. If we were just going off the fact that something was software in a box with pads we could start comparing things to a calculator haha.

Not entirely sure what you mean. I'll take this as humour :p

Lamp you stand correct...maschine vs renaissance is the most fair comparison...although not right off the bat imo...maschine's been thru multiple major software updates already...comparing it pad for pad at this point would be bit unfair imo...

anybody remembers how much of a resource hog maschine was when it first dropped...thing ate more processor resources just running in the background than full blown VST project in ableton

btw i was joking macbook vs mpc
