I think this is the problem... they've posted a crappy short video and slapped it on a crappy little micro site with no other useful information!

I'm with you though, it seems pretty obvious it's just a built in audio and midi interface.

It's all part of the plan mate. Exactly why they did it to stir controversy like this. They have the money to hire the best Social Media Marketers money can buy.

Just a shame people are to brainwashed to believe it.

first of all...

the ren or whatever u wanna call it, is in competition with the maschine.
and by looks and knowing that the software will most likely take on most if not all hardware features in the daw, it wins hands down.. i never liked the maschine n e ways.

second..
I think it would continue the hardware sampler duties. Reason being, why are there record input & line input jacks/ports on the rear?

To me it seems to be a do it all mpc. Capabilities that go farther than any of the current crop of mpc's...except for...drumroll please.

this only leads me to believe that maybe we will see a new spark into the 2500 (fingers crossed)... the 5k is and was not my thing ever. but breading new life into a 2k5 is the shit and we all know it. im thinking by this time next yr, they have better got on the all in one box bandwagon like they used to do and make the damn thing killah!
2k5 with 4k features like phone input, usb stick. new shit like mpc chaining(vestax style- just another st line input for mp's) n other good shit like 1gb ram.

mark my words mp ninjas

its a full cut mpc.......except the cpu & ram is in you laptop or whatever..
so no.. it is not!

I know people are taken by this new Ren. but the one thing it's not is a standalone unit. It's not going to work without a computer and I will put money on that (as you previously stated).

I'd be interested to see what it is, there is a lot of speculation. But I have a feeling it's just hype talk.

Not trying to debate. I don't want another one.

my thing is,who dosen't own a compuiter nowadays anyway? plus your tracking out into your DAW anyway.some peeps will never be happy about nothing.all the original MPC's are still out there if u want one.I like what they did with it so far, plus I'd trust there product over another company doing the samething.no real learning curve + I can EQ my drums on the fly with a 10 band EQ and compression  using the computer to power it has more power to me+ unlimited sample time.I'll take one thanks

I'm still contemplating one, because it does look super awesome, but it would be cool if I could travel with just it and nothing else and write from a hotel room. Plus sometimes I want to get away from my laptop but still be making tracks.

Word iz bond son, when it boils down to comparing the Gayaissance to real MPC's I feel this what the Gayaissance represents:

Real MPC's represent:

This should give great clarity on the difference

There you go I've just saved you the best part of $900. Unfortunately the Renaissance won't work away from a laptop, so you can write that notion off.

Don't become victim to the hype, you want a functional MIDI controller for your laptop and also a way to escape it from time to time? Get a 1000.

This is key. Take a closer look at the video. The MPC-Ren has plenty of buttons and knobs to include cursor keys and a data wheel....and an adjustable LCD and a host of audio I/O.. I suspect that if you tuck your laptop away, you wouldn't even realize the MPC-Ren is not a traditional MPC.

This isn't a thread about hype! It is a thread about legacy mpc vs the software controller renaissance. We all have legacy units as of now as the hardware sampler/sequencer market is finish, kaput!! Hardware is discounted from the outlook of things so I wanted to see how this hybrid controller/software sequencer measures up. There are those who actually may have given them a spin so I'm checking for an response.

The concept of putting the sequencer and sample engine makes perfect sense if the software is the same as the all in one unit. We all talked about a unit in the past like Neko that was hardware that can host vsts and such but that fell to the wayside. Making a hardware sampler/sequencer plus a software sequencer like the Roland V8800 may have been the wish of a lot of users. But that isn't how the market was going it seems. So Numark when the software route via a grand controller/sound card .

So what is left is how does it compare sequencer, sampler, and stability wise to a legacy unit.

Either the Ren will be successful or the market for legacy units just went up?

The way I see it the mpc sequencer on the computer it huge plus only if it is on par with a legacy unit mpc. Plus if the software sampler is up to par then you can do a lot more than just hardware samplers. Plus if I can use Kontakt, battery or maschine itself then all the better if it works well.

Good luck packing the Ren. into your backback. Have they starting making foldable units now?

if you look at the screen shot of the software too, it has "Debug" on the main menu. Looks like an early screen shot to me. Marketing prob wanted to get thier shizz out before the product is even ready. its happened to me before on projects i've worked on. screen shots of half designed shit.....retarded sales folks promising things that aren't even in the project plan. oh well, part of how it goes down I guess.

just will have to wait and see

I've got a 2000XL and a Livid Ohm64, so between them and the novation x-station I have a nice little midi controlling "suite" or what have you, but they'd have my money if they basically made what the Ren presents but with a hard drive and the ability to work without a computer. Sounds like no such luck though.
