depends on what im doing with the beat. i usually start with drums then either work on my melody or my bassline after drums.

a few times i've played a melody then layed the drums to it.

do you program your drums or usually just bang'em out ?

I hear what you're saying bricks. Lately it seems like i get the sample or melody sounding how I want and then add drums. It's just easier for me to fill in, cuz most times i can hear the melody and then once I've got that going the drums just drop right in. Not sure if that's what you were talking about but just my 2 cents.

i do both, really i do

jus depends on the track, if the sample is real choppy i'll lay the drums and the chops over that, if i got a nice melody in my skull i'll lay it then freak the drums

do you lay your drums to song mode or just in segment mode?

yeah i usually jus bangem out too
step edit is nice if you wanna get complex drum patterns

but with note repeat on the mpc you can do the same type stuff

jus somethin about bangin out them drums

i feel you on percussion, i like a lot, specially hand percussion that's why i wouldn't mind having the roland handsonic

i like em goin in the background, sometimes loud sometimes subtle

I usually start with some kind of idea of the mood I want to create. Then all bets are off. Might start with a rough version of the drums, add a bassline, rerecord the drums, add a melody, but I might as well work the other way around.

I add my drums in the middle like first i'll do a piano sequence, then strings and what not. Then the kicks and right after the kicks I do the bass then after I find a nice snare and hi-hats.

I bang my drums out the majority of the time. And just chop up samples and add what sounds good.
