Dude you'd buy anything.

Akai could sell you a brick of **** and call it the MPC5000LE and you would still buy it.

Korg could announce at NAMM that the KRONOS 2 will be out and you'd still buy that too.

And why not? For one...I have the money. And two...I purchase any new product I am excited about. As long as Akai produces highend MPCs, I would buy them. This is an MPC Forum right? For a second, I thought I am on the MV Forum.

And no...I am done with Korg workstations. I am completely unhappy with the Kronos. I will most likely pick up a Motif XF.

The question I have for you is.....why so much passion for a product you dislike from a company that you hate? I get it already. You hate this new MPC. I like it. Can we move on?

Cause this has never been a blind fanboy forum. We obsess over the tiniest little details of each and every model, create endless MPC___versus MPC______ threads, debate every pro and con. No model escapes scrutiny or criticism. Get over it. We're gonna talk about it and not every comment is going to be an ode to the Ren's greatness.

I think only the MPC forums could you find a group of people who have come to love a product then have the company completely turn to shit.

It seriously sucks...

I had a MPC500 but I sold it because Akai stopped making updates for it.
I bought a MPC2500 to find out that the OS was garbage but thanks to JJ he came in and pretty much made it a solid product.

I think the MPC2500 with JJOS is one of the best MPC's ever made.

Given that. its sad that a outside source had to fix things for Akai.
Without the JJOS on the 1k and 2.5k would be a decent product.

Either way your just a funny dude.
I dont think theres a bigger Akai fan boy on this forum...

I like that they have the oldschool transport style keys...

here is the way I see it...

lets say you are a person..be it a 15 year old kid, or a 40 year old who wants to try out a new hobby that is simple to pick up and start doing without much learning curve... the mpc series is something you might come across because it is easy to just pop out a song withing a minute of turning it on because they are known for simplicity.

now, you are starting out and you dont own any gear yet... so you have a few things to consider... a controller, because they help you use all 10 fingers to play.. you need the interface, because you dont own one yet and want to record your records or what ever else since dilla and primo have paved that thought into everyone's minds over the past 20 years.. and obviously you need software to put these things together..

sure, it seems that this is one single purchase that offers all those things.

but let's say you already are in the game, you have some knowledge about numark, and music gear brands.. quality etc.. would numark be your choice for a controller? maybe... would numark be your choice for an interface... again maybe, but probably not.. now the big question..... would numark be your choice for software or anything that requires coding? probably not.

Not saying they wont pull it off, but I certainly wont be the beta tester on that code... and I am certain most people here who know about music gear and software will agree... that is why we must appreciate the blind faith of people like JAH, who will buy anything numark manufactures... we need them test the waters. The only thing the rest of us must do is see through the bias in the review afterwards.

this product is for sure aimed at people who are starting out, this is a great thing because people want to express themselves and this is designed to be an outlet for that..

in these forums you often see questions from people who are a day into music production such as:

-how do I synch my mpc or mpd to my daw
-where do I get sounds, and how do I get them into my mpc
-how do I get my vinyl samples recorded into my fruity loops or logic
-how do I sequence my virtual instruments with my mpc drum patterns
-what cable do I need to record my mpc into the computer
-can I record my 500/1000/2500 into my daw with the usb cable

well this product addresses all of these day 1 user questions.

I doubt Akai of even 2 years ago could code a piece of software like this, so it'd be interesting to know who is really responsible for its development. If it can genuinely import full and complex projects from the 4k (or any other MP) there must be something vaguely competent going on under the hood.

Aesthetics will be a non-issue in my opinion too... give it 6 months and you will be able to customise everything about the hardware through mpc stuff.

I would say it's more of a 'sign of the times' situation, rather than something for newbs. If the software was a direct rip of the 500 I could see your point, but this has full backward compatibility with older MP's and the ability to use keygroup programs etc. It could turn out to be surprisingly flexible and powerful.

yes, but they did some fan service with bringing back the arm rest and oldschool buttons... I appreciate that....

the "aimed at n00bs" was just the impression it gives off with things that veterans wont care about such as:

-the 6gb library (wHer dO i gEt sOunDz? remember that from around the forums?)
-the audio interface... lets be honest... a numark usb audio interface?
-the USB hub, these cost 50 cents on ebay... they might be nice on macbook airs with one usb port though

just saying, most producers have all this already... now all that remains is seeing how the software performs... VST stability and audio app stability (as well as performance) is something many companies already have a tough time achieving... look at people like waves (which IMO chokes the computer compared to other pieces of kit) ... so even though majority of vst/app companies have overcome these issues by now... I am reluctant to expect numark has done the same. I would love to ignore their past faults.... but it's really hard to since they have proven themselves as a shoddy product company more times than they have proven themselves as a good product company. No hate, it's realism.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. It does seem like they're trying to cover their arse on a number of different levels. Whether this is a good thing remains to be seen, but like you say, even the cheapo usb hub is a bonus for laptop users. The ability to disable the audio interface in some form would be ideal for those people with decent interfaces out there.

mr_debauch wrote:now all that remains is seeing how the software performs...

Totally.

Also, notice how the video has a complete lack of any shots of the controllers screen? I think they've missed a trick here (in marketing terms), as seasoned MPC users still want a unit that looks, behaves and responds like an MPC... even if it's just a suped-up controller.

I don't think we'll get to know much more about this before Namm...

Bryan-Michael Cox

FOR ALL OF MY PRODUCERS OUT THERE, AKAI HAS UNLEASHED THE NEW MPC. AS AN AVID MPC USER, I ABSOLUTELY ENDORSE THIS MACHINE. I HAVE HAD A CHANCE TO PROGRAM ON IT AND HELP DEVELOP IT. BIG UPS TO JOHNATHAN MAYES, DANIEL GILL, AND SEAN C. & LV FOR INCLUDING ME IN THE CREATIVE PROCESS FOR THIS NEW MPC.

Got this from the Gear Slutz Forum. Don't bother spamming the MPC Ren thread as you will get locked out of the thread.

So the Tempest is only gay because you can't afford it? I mean you've admitted you will get one if it was under $1300 so you must like the machine for what it is. Bit silly to call it "gay" because its out of your price range.

Anyone. enough of this sillyness. Off to pick up my EPS 16+. Catch this debate on Sunday when I'm back home.

JAH? You serious? :P

THE AKAI PRO MPC OFTEN IMITATED NOBODY COMES CLOSE

You put the ad slogan in your sig?

You work for them?If not, can you explain it? Do you get pleasure from that? Is it like an idol thing? Or favorite sports team? Or love for religious family?

Not hating, just want to understand, since I didn't expect to see someone do that.

Basically I knew it would get a few people around here hot under the collar. :P

Let's have a mature discussion for a bit. Do people here actually get pleasure out of spamming every thread with I hate Nu Akai rants. You see it soooo much throughout these forums. Whether Akai deserves this or not....when is it time to move on? It completely throws off the harmony of the entire forum. People join this forum daily. There are some that are excited about Akai products like the MPC Ren and MPC 5000. But with all the repetitive crap being posted in every thread, you guys are chasing these individuals away.

I am an MPC fanatic. I have been for a long time. Its the only musical instrument that I love. Hmmmm....I would join an MPC cult. If you gentleman are really mature, you wouldn't get upset about someone liking some product or some company that you don't care for. That's childish.

Tutor and the moderators here let alot of this go. That is both good and bad. The bad part is that this site is less professional as you would see like in a Gearslutz Forum. In the Gearslutz Forum, you have professional musicans/producers/artists that visit the forum on a daily basis. Makers of music production gear also frequent the forums and have great relationships with forum members. This isn't possible in this forum.

Note - the Gear Slutz Forum MPC Ren thread has over 12,000 views.
