MPC 2000xl os 1.20 vs 1.14

I think the 1.20 contains the proper atapi protocol which the v1.14 lacks... and is required to function with non atapi readers... or so I am under the impression..

the ones that are not just IDE... but ATAPI, seem to function with version 1.14, and they see to be able to make use of the large cf cards such as 16 gig and I believe JD mentioned he had some luck with 32 gig ones too...

this would not be possible with version 1.20 from what I understand as that OS only allows the allocation of a single GB total on any given cf card regardless of partitions etc.. if I am not mistaken. correct me if I am wrong.


you wanna talk OS features? I wish the latest 2000classic OS allowed for the shift+slider feature in the trim screen.. plus I would like the acceleration increase feature of the jog wheel the xl has (you keep turning for a few seconds and it starts going up faster) .. folder support would have been nice too..

I have both machines and also felt the XLs jog wheel was a step up
Could never understand why most people prefer the classic jog wheel weeeeeehen the XL still allows you to change columns using SHIFT and cursor button.

I like the 2000 classic's jog wheel better... I like the numeric shift feature too.. I just like the automatic gear shifting the xl does.. haha...

had mpc for 10 years + had bios 1.10 I think worked great never had any error, tried 1.12 started to get mem dump errors 1.14 supports some ide atapi but 1.20 is fully supported only thing I hate is when you use atapi device sd cf the fdd cannot be used I tried it and it don't work must use the same irq or int shame on you akai. SCSI IS STILL THE BEST.

really? I didn't know that... I mean, the OS would support having it... but I am guessing you mean to boot the device with a CF inserted it doesn't boot the floppy drivers type of thing? I did not know that one...

I wonder how the mpc handles IRQ conflicts... does it simply replace the assignment or would it actually cause you to reboot?

yes scsi is nice for the ability of using 5 devices... **** pricey gear though these days.

I found a winning combination of stuff and stuck to it.

Same here, 0S1.14 works a like charm with both CF cards up to 1 gig and SD cards (partitioned).
