MIDI TRACKS?

This one has been killing me for awhile..
I have my MPC 2000 hooked up to a Roland JP 8080 synth. So I record my first little piano melody on Track 1 MIDI 1A of the MPC, no problem, then I want to change the patch on the JP 8080 to a Bass sound, and I want to record this to Track 2 of the MPC, No matter what I try It will not work, ultimately when I change the sound to a bass sound it changes the piano SOUND ON TRACK 1 to the bass sound. How do I keep the piano sound on track 1 while I recording different sounds onto the other tracks. ??

your synth isn't multitimbral

I thought the JP 8080 was 2-part multitimbral?
I could be wrong, but a friend of mine has one and i'm sure he can play two different sounds at the same time somehow.

You must use the MPC as your controller. When you change the the sound on the JP 8080, you are telling the MPC that the " Bass Sound " is the sound you want for all midi channels. Try the Piano on track 1 midi 1a, and on the mpc change track 2 to midi 2 a and change the program number PGM on the mpc ( usually 1-128) to find the appropriate sound for track 2. However you must have your sound modules midi channels 1-16 turned on and programmed for your sounds to be present when you change midi device number midi 1a, midi 2a, midi 3a , ....etc.

make sure your jp 8080 is not in omini mode.
