Consulting with sound designers like Large Professor or even Pete Rock would have been better.

Innovative producers with vision... who can make equipment do what it wasn't designed to do to come up with effective production techniques.

It's the legends Akai want to be getting on board for their testing and product reviews. The have the power to influence. But, only if their view is their own and not paid for.

There are many producers that use MPCs that Akai could consult with:
MPC 60: DJ Premiere, 45 King
MPC 3000: Dr. Dre, Havoc, Battle Cat, Eminem, D Dot
MPC 2000/2000XL: Kanye West, Q-Tip
MPC 2500: Alchemist, 9th Wonder, Showbiz
MPC 4000: Play-n-Skillz, Dark Child

..........not to mention all the feedback in the MPC Forums, Native Instrument Forums, and the MV Nation.

What makes you think Akai didn't consult one or all of the above?

Forat has it posted on his page. I can't wait to see the first custom MPC Ren. I only got the wood side panels back in the day for my MPC 3000. But this year, I will certainly get my MPC Ren customized. One I will leave in its original state outside of a fat pad upgrade.

LOL @ Forat. He knows how to make cash from the mugs that's for sure. The dude is gonna milk it with this one. Modifications to the Ren. is like sending your Mashine off asking for pad upgrades. Actually, you already requested a paint job on his Maschine in the NI forums.

Disclaimer: Forat is thee best in the game for repairs and modifications. Simple.

Cosign? I didn't say that.

Yep I'm serious. Akai won't get the opinions of the greats because they wouldn't endorse it. It's not for them. Just like it's not for a percentage of people on here. But you try preaching to Damu The Fudgemunk that he needs this machine and he will laugh at you.

But when an unknown laughs at you people seem to think it gives them the right to convince others that they are stupid and they need this new Ren.

It's not about who's relevant in the music industry. It's about quality control. When it comes to consulting a company on how to create a sampler..Large Pro is a much better person to consult with than Araab. Fools in this industry are still using Larger Professor's sampling methods.

How do you know if Large Proffesor wasn't consulted? I would have hit up Kanye.

"Ye...I see you rocking out with the MPC 2000...but you still have that ASR-10. Now what do you need in a new MPC (if any) that would make you switch it up and get down with the new Kang aroud here? I know you can do some amazin sh!t with 16 MB of sample memory and nondestructive chopping. Give me some feedback." Or something like that.....

Actually it does matter who is relevant. Akai is trying to SELL equipment to the NOW generation. You think any kid in this new generation is gonna be more influenced by Large Pro over Araab, let alone know who Large Pro even is? Sure, Large Pro may be a better consultant, but this generation doesn't know that. They know Araab. Hell, you might as well march Roger Linn's old ass up to the video shoot to do the consulting judging by what you're saying!

RL: I'm hear to talk about my new drum machine...the seed of my loin...its for beat oriented music...ta hell with the wack 4x4 pad design. 8x8 is the future. It has drum loops you have never heard before. And the filters? Ahhhhh they are so warm...

J: Does it sample?

RL: What you need sampling for? I have included 2 drum kits with 16 sounds a piece. That is more than enough because its only a 4-voice synth. Did I mention the filters?

As a marketing tactic it's good to have someone like Araab, but we shouldn't assume the kids don't recognise and appreciate great production and historic influence. My Bro for example would be way more interested if the legends of the game were behind the promotion, and he's a young dude.

The true test (in a way) is if Araab actually takes the Ren and a laptop out on the road once his endorsement period is over. I'm hoping the next video actually shows him getting busy with the controller, 'cause he's pretty tame on the first one.

I'm speaking about majority of the youth. Kid Genius is was only 13-14 and was up on all the shit we came up on. But I would say the majority of the young beat makers today would be more influenced by Araab, just as they are more mostly influenced by DAW based production than they are hardware MPC's.

And yeah, Araab was type calm in that vid. But he's never usually jumping around all wild in any of his vids if you noticed. I think the excessive energy the other two dudes had was making Araab look unenthusiastic in comparison. But he always seems like that IMO. Just a simple head bob and 200 mph hands!
