Hey -
I just bought an MPC 1000-BK off of Craigslist - I paid a low price for it because it had a few problems. The guy said he got it off craigslist too, but liked to just make beats with FL studio better.
In order of importance, the problems are as follows:
-the down directional button doesn't work. it worked for about 5 minutes, but I think I somehow pressed it too hard trying to figure out a way to consistently make it work.
-the right directional button is sticky, and works usually... but sometimes requires pushing hard.
-the left BAR/STEP directional requires a new button
-the lighted Q1 and Q2 buttons are missing - need new buttons

Overall, my problems seem to be with the tact switches. I haven't really LEARNED how to fully use the MPC yet, so if a button doesn't seem to have a particular effect
(such as the 'MAIN' button, which I press and seem to get no response from... ) I can't tell if it's a problem or just a lack of my own functional understanding of the machine. In other words, there could be more problems that I haven't yet identified.
Either way, I think I'll need a few tact switches replaced. I've seen that one can do this on their own with some soldering skills.... but I'm unsure of myself.
SO, my questions are:
Can I send this into AKAI to get repaired...?
How much do you think it would cost me?
I took it into a Pro Sound in San Diego and they said ordering parts would take up to 5 weeks,
repairs costed 100/hr and 10 day rush repair was extra money. I leave town in 6 days, so I need faster than that.
As for the MPC, I took it apart, tried the buttons to decide which ones were broken, and cleaned it extensively.
All in all, I'm a poor college student and I would like to have a fully functional MPC for the fewest amount of dollars spent. Thanks very much for your insights.
