Good to know. I always wanted to get a EEPROM writer. Might just do that real soon, because I want this 8-bit drum machine that also makes use of the writer to add more sounds.

I think VST might still have some Chips left too.

It would be even cooler if some 3rd party company made some kind of custom super OS (like rohan/mansell/other) for the MPC60/ASQ10 with tons of features, maybe even a step seq like the jjos for the 1k or even more

....Seems like so many people own or want an MPC60 these days, I don't know why a company hasn't found a good reason not to yet.

With the discontinuation of the factory OS..I think there is more reason to do so.

There is a lot that can't be done due to hardware resrtictions. I think your over estimating what the 60 is capable of.
With os 3 it's already at the point where some less often used features had to be ditched to make space for the new ones. For example the help system had to be removed.
The 60 can't even handle long sequences with out slowing down (please wait, the MPC is busy...), never mind having realtime step sequencing.

I think the main things holding back coders is :
Tiny amount of memory, slow CPU,3.10e works and is quite good, limited market.

The factory OS is discontinued due to lack of sales.
What makes you think people are going to rush out and spend another few hundred bucks when os3 is so good and missing features can be found in other products ?

I think this is somekind of a dumb question:

Could it work to just put a faster CPU in the MPC60? Because its sequencing is not as tight as the newer ones and even the 3000. The Notes on the same step just dont punch together like in newer mpcs, i mean that they start almost at the same time.

Many of the limitations found in the MPC 60 are what makes it great.

I agree, I dont think I have ever had that issue though..

I really like the MPC60s timing and wouldn't want to change it. If you want the timing of a 3000 or newer MPC why not just get one ?

I agree with MPCHunter and mr_debauch.

The limitations make you write/play music a certain way. Add modern features and you wont produce the same music.

The MPC60 makes me a better player( of keys and pads). The interface leads me to play thing's on it rather than programming. If I dont play it right I hit erase and play it again untill I get it.

On things with roland style step sequencing and on computers I'll either program stuff or I'll play something poorly and then edit the mistakes.

Ah...true true.. i see your guy's point - with extra features one would mess with it differently. I too just use it as a drum/midi-"recorder". I never actually "program" or use step mode.. I just set it at 8 bar, hit record and keep playing till I get it right.

me too I do that sometimes... it's super fun trying to get the pattern right within the quatization... almost like playing simon.

I can't believe that as soon as I wanna go to 3.10 on my mpc60 that it's discontinued! I spose I left it late. I still know that there are some that will probably do it, like Armens in NYC, Route 66 (in winsconsin I think), but they're not keen to deal with me being in Australia I don't think...

Hopefully they maintain stock after I finish budgeting for my EP!!!

i dont see why it would be out of stock in the first place... come to think of it... i mean, all he needs is a eprom/usb reader/writer... prolly takes like 10 minutes to do a set (if that)
