before i buy a product that runs on software, i need
a commitment of ongoing support (preferably development but at least a response to my needs as a user). within reason. i don't expect something to be developed for 50+ years. but you know what i mean.
transparency. who is working on the product? how many people are working on it? what have they worked on in the past? are they contracted by the company, or are they directly employed by the company? does their contract have an expiration date?
honesty and accountability. is there a bug? cool. is it hard to fix? that's fine! tell me. let me know what you're working on. don't make promises you can't keep. don't hype yourselves endlessly. don't make me feel like a potential customer even after i've purchased your product.
an attitude of collaboration. if i submit a bug, will you respond? will you forward it to your devs? will you permit your devs to respond to me? or will you simply say "we hear you" with a hi five (down low!) and some slang that was cool in the early 2000s? does your company have a supportive environment for its users? a well-implemented forum community? if not, will you recognize and implement legitimate suggestions from your users to improve your product?
an attitude of respect and professionalism. do you treat me like an educated musician/technician, or do you treat me like a woulda-been with gawdy style, to whom music is a fashion accessory rather than an artform?
