just starting out w/ the MPC..mostly making hip hop and dancehall beats. Having troubles making basslines. Been messing with sine wave and sub wavs but getting lots of artifacts/click. Tried cutting att/dec and filtering but not much better. Using 16 levels seems to come up with crap too.

How do you guys do it

I'm only trying to put together pretty simple and heavy two/three part droning b-lines for tracks in the 85-105 range

prefer to avoid the keyb route (or just filtering existing breaks down to bass) and learn how to cook up stuff solely on the mpc

Thanks
Pete

find a nice bass sample. i usually do the drum beat and rock the note variation slider in step sequence mode to bust the nice basslines. pretty simple stuff. you dont need a keyboard.

then i went to the record store and bought some charlie mingus records and some ron carter records... these two cats were the heaviesst bass players...
most of the stuff on these records can be filtered down and chopped to a really nice pure sound....
basically all im saying is if u want bass get some bass players.......
peace and respek
