Bad Format (40?) error

I downloaded a sample pack the other day that had (.pgm) and sample wavs bundled together in folders. But every time I tried to load up the program with the samples I got this error.

(BAD FORMAT 403)

I'm not 100% sure the code was 403 or 405 because I'm not in front of the machine at the moment.

This has happened A LOT with kits that I have obtained from other people and it gets very fustrating trying to assign samples to the program manually especially when it has a lot of samples. Plus these samples are saved the way the maker wanted.

Does anyone know why this happens or what I can do to fix it?

Why yes Sir, that would be a nice gesture.

Seriously, load each (and I know this is a pain, not to me though) individual sample, pgm, file, because one or more of them are corrupt. Don't just load the whole folder because you'll also be loading that corrupt file(s) wherever it may be and you'll never know which one is bad. Process of elimination.

I've had this problem before and for me it was a bad sample and another time it was a bad pgm file. All the rest in the folders loaded good and I found which one(s) were bad.

Another way I've gotten around it was to preview each sample in Sound Forge and I can find out that way which is bad also, only works for samples though, project files though. I just remove all metadata and resave as the same type wav and it works afterwards.

Put your mind into troubleshooting mode and go forth Mr. Man.
