linking mpc to a motif es8 keyboard

can someone please tell me the steps for linking my mpc2000xl up to a motif es8 keyboard. what i want to be able to do is add a drum pattern that i am creating on the mpc and record it into an existing track that i am composing on my motif es8 keyboard. i know i have it hooked up correctly externally through the midi cable, but i think my problem is internal setups. please, please help. if anyone with this same equipment lives in the richmond va area please respond to this posting as i would love to collab and maybe exchange ideas.

tell me this if you have it midi properly can you play the Motif sounds on the MPC pads?
