Should I pull the trigger?

First let me start of by saying, I love my 4000 & will never sell it. I mainly use the 4000 for sequencing my external synths & drums. After 8 years, I just started using the keygroups function & it has given me a reason to fall in love with the 4000 all over again. I don't have a problem with the "Swing" or the so called lack thereof. Also, i'm not looking to start a comparison thread asking which is better.


The main reason i'm posting this question is because I have come across a good deal on a MPC 60. I have read numerous post on the swing of the 60 & 3000.I've come to the conclusion, I probably need to check it out myself & judge from there.Especially since some say there is a major difference & other say it's not that much of a difference. For me, most of the time I turn off the quant,so I bang away until I get the swing that I want.

It's in excellent condition & it was just serviced by forat & it looks beautiful. It has the 3.10 OS,mem upgrade & SCSI. The price for it is $700.00 which I think is a good deal. I'm undecided because i'm not sure if it will be a good addition to my arsenal. I know the 60 is a good machine,however I have never used one.

So my question is simple, do you guys think adding a MPC 60 to my arsenal would be a good thing, or am I just suffering from gear lust?

I'm not gonna front, part of my temptation to purchase is because of the so called Roger Linn Swing I heard about. I'm so tempted,but I don't want to get it if it's not bringing anything to the table I really need. I know it has the 12 bit sampler, which is nice,but if I want that 12 bit sound, I could just pickup a S950 for less money (I think). So what do you guys think, should I get it, or save my money?

My advice: no. Once you get used to features on the 4k, really the only other option would be the 5k...and I would still pick the 4k. Save that cash to upgrade your 4000 or buy some vinyl would be my suggestion.

I think the 60 would be a beast in any ones studio.
I think if you end up buying the 60, once you have it and messed
around with it you won't regret it.

Thanks guys for your responses, greatly appreciated. After some careful consideration & smoking some good Grand Daddy Kush(lol), I've decided to take that $700.00 & use it towards some more piano lessons.

I feel that may be the better investment.

... wait for the MPC renaissance and get them both.

Yeah I would definitely invest in some piano lessons but I mean hey, the 60 only comes around but so often, you have to jump on those when you see them but the thing is if youre gonna pay $700 for a MPC60 it better have SCSI, and be in great condition and have a nice backlight, muhfukkas is hittin over the head for the 60MK1 right now...Im very much so looking into getting one only because I owned the 3000 already and Im familiar with the Roger Linn style of sequencing capabilities...It would be a nice tool to add to the arsenal because you can use the 60 to control the 4000 by doing all your sample chopping in the 4000 and controlling the chops with the 60 through the Midi out...Only thing is, youre limited to 4 pad banks...But then theres the alternative, wait it out for a few more months....let the Renaissance drop and then have the emulation of the 60 and the 3000 and also have a digital setup in which you still could control your 4000 with the Renaissance because it has Midi built in...You can have the best of both worlds but I do know this though, once that Renaissance drops...Hardware MPCs prices are going to drop and thats when Ima snatch me a 60 for sure...might even copp another 3000 and go on a Dilla binge for months...LMAO...12Bit Crunch with limited sample time unless upgraded...Im using my 60 basically for the sequencer and as a controller to the 4000...Plus it would just look spiffy as **** in my studio...Definitely...I miss the 2 MPC setup...

But DUDE, are you SERIOUS!?!

A little modification in the sample edit section of the 4k and you can make it sound like a 60! The limited sample time and storage is NOT worth 700 smackers!
