MPC 1000 Akai OS v JJOS for a beginner.

Hey.
I've just ordered my first MPC. I have downloaded the Akai manual and have been revising it. I have also been reading about the JJOS which many people seem to consider superior to the Akai OS.

So my (possibly silly) questions - Are both OSs equally intuitive? Would I be better of starting out on the Akai OS or going straight for the JJOS?

Also, what is the general consensus from you seasoned beat makers in terms of which is an overall better OS?

Welcome to the forums man. To me there's no reason to start with the akai os, much of the basics are very similar in the JJOS, but there's many many workflow improvements. (eg. GPE - changing the settings on all pads at once, and sample chopping are a couple of notable ones) . There are many other features on the JJOS, but they don't make the basics more complicated, you can explore these when your ready. GPE and JJ chopping are indispensable for most users though.

Which JJOS would be the one to get? I've seen a few on the website but I'm not sure how it works in terms of downloading versions and payment.

pretty much anything you get is better than the Akai OS
I used to have a 1ooo and I didn't update past the second one
but the main thing JJ did was fix the saving issues the Akai OS became known for; that and the 25oo had the most buggy saving algorithms I've ever seen on a machine
for that alone I'd consider at least getting one of the free betas

I have the paid version of JJOS but you should def upgrad to any of them. As you get into using your mpc more and what it does you will surely appreciate the JJOS functions. I started off with an mpc 500 then got a 1000 and have to tell you the biggest difference was having JJOS

when I used the 1k I only had the free jjos, it was enough for me and greatly improved its ability over the akai os. I felt like the other jj os's crammed the screen ti much

you can usually type in what your trying to do with JJOS on youtube and youll be able to find it, that coupled with the online manual and youll be set to go after a little learning curve.

i wouldnt even bother with akia os..

i mean yeh sure turn it on and have a browse around when u get ur mpc, but i would upgrade to jjos1 almost straight away.

im still using jjos1 for about 4 yrs now.. the only thing im missing out on is non destructive chopping in jjos2xl i think..

Start immediately with the "free JJOS" and once you get familiar with it or you start to think that "gosh i wish it could to this/that" check out the other versions.

It's really good to read the manual and push the buttons on the MPC simultaneously. All the time you invest in learning your machine out will eventually pay off!
