IDE Zip 250, instead of floppy, inside mpc?

can this be done? is the floppy IDE? or can you only put a scsi one inside?

I am in favor of people keeping their floppies where they are and using external zips. Why you ask? Well, zips fail. It's a fact, and it could be a while before your does, but when it does, or if your scsi fails, you will have no option but to accept some down time before you are up and running again.

If woody had kept his floppy, then he could still save his music and continue working with floppies until the zip is back up and running.

If you're a bad ass tech like MPC3000 they you probably have spare scsi fuses or whatever can be handled quickly, but in a business where downtime means lost $$, keep the damn floppy.

sorry about all the questions, but do any of you know about a replacement for the 3000 screen(lcd).i got a line down the middle, it still works though.
i heard they don't make them anymore.

VST in pasadena has replacements, I think it's like 2 or 3 hundred dollars.

You could replace the floppy with a SCSI zip with minimal fuss as described at mpc3000.com

As far as failing devices, no one says you have to throw away the floppy. You can always raise the hood and re-insert the floppy. In addition to this, if you are using Zips and you care about your work, you will have at least one spare. If something happens to the SCSI system (blown fuse, etc), you are going to be out of luck anyway since you will likely not be able to load any of your existing work until it is fixed (which is pretty easy for experienced solderers).

This is only for light replacement, not the LCD itself.

I really do not think that it is a big risk to remove the floppy. Heck, I do not even have a floppy drive for mine anymore (sold it to some poor chap in Nashville).

If the scsi fails then you can still save to floppy unless I am somehow mistaken.

But yeah, for us the issue wouldn't be serious, butI like to have as many means of back up as possible.

Yeah I have much experience soldering, but I believe the marion scsi board for the 60 doesn't have fuses on it, or so I've read.

thanks for the links and info, i'll hit up vst, thats where i got my 3.11 chip and buttons replaced. they said they didn't make the screen any more, they got the light though. mine has a line from left to right, not up and down. it just kind of chills there and dosn't get worse or anything.
anybody know if i can just swap the floppy with a IDE zip 250?
peace! i just want to stream line my studio and have everthing in one package. its much easier for shows and what not.

i dont think the mpc can use ide, only scsi.

You can with a SCSI-IDE bridge (Iodata, Acard, etc). I have put several IDE drives in SCSI only samplers, like MPC's and ASR's, using these handy devices.
