from the Akai facebook page, another answer about the updates (again to our friend
m:t:c, they seem to like you!)
Q: The future of hardware MPCs
Now that the new line of MPCs is fully revealed, is there going to be any support for the 1000, 2500, 5000 and/or 500 models? Continued OS development/bug fixes?
A: J Sandeen (Employee): Hey Matti, this is a whole new beast. Although it is based off the current MPC series, there are no plans to have this new line replace the models you speak off. No worries, all shall continue as they are currently.
I've just asked them to clarify, because "all shall continue as they are currently", to me means only they will keep ignoring all the feedback and update requestes we have been making for so long.
My guess is that they are simply not discontinuing those models, and they'll keep "supporting" them with repairs and such (for which the users have to
pay), but we won't see any updates to the OS's.
EDIT:
as a matter of fact I've found one Akai rappresentative that was kind enough to answer clearly... it actually seems they plan to support the standalone MPC line and they would like to update the MPC5000 by the time the Ren is out.
I might regret saying so, but I hope for the best... I'll give Akai another opportunity to change my mind about how they listen to what their users actually need
here he is!
