ASR-10 Time Compression/Expanding

What is this option like?
Is it any good?
Maybe someone can show me a sample with this option applied?

I'm really curious, are there more options on the ASR-10 like this?
Is it good with sample flipping/manipulation?
I really like to hear some "samples"

I read in the manual this option is available for the ASR-10.

I am willing to buy an ASR-10 Keyboard for €360,- Eur.
Is this a good price? (It tolds it has an SCSI connection but nothing said bout the RAM etc..).

Regarding to other internet resources I think this is one of the best sample manipulation devices out there.

I also bought an S3000i from "scoobylol" on this forum.
I'm addicted to sample based beats and producing them for 7 years now like.

I just got 600 vinyl records so I'm good to go with my MPC2500 S3000i and ASR-10.

Can't wiat to get my hands on this stuff man! I like this old hardware.

Any other recommendations?

I now have 2 directdrive decks, Vestax PMC-06 mixstick, Mackie 2404 24 channel mixer, Alesis MidiVerb 4 and a nice 200w rack amp with my Tannoy SRM-10 studio monitors i'm in love with for 15 years now.

I'd like to expand my hardware and fill my rack to it's fullest!.

Yup. Its one of the best hardware sample manipulation devices ever made. But be warned, its not an instant results machine. It requires an investment. You gotta put a lot of time into it. Both in terms of learning the machine and in terms of tweaking out samples.

Depends on what you want to do, but you don't really have a need for any more samplers. If you're really hardcore, then you don't have a need for any synths/sound modules either because you can use the ASR or S3000i (or the 2500 if you get JJOS) to play samples as melodic patches.

Yeah I'm suffering on the Gear Aquisition Syndrome.
I wasted my time on software since the sound that I'm trying to create is much easier with the hardware I'm collecting now.
So it's a very big step up for me.
The gritty cracking sound, the bass, the swing and "cheap" sounding effects in it, awesome.

I've bought external reverb to but I dont use it.

I like making music.
It's the only thing I care for, when my RME FireFace UC will drop by I'll let you hear my productivity.

I have the diamond for myself don't like to put it online.

I'm slicing beats for like 7/8 years now and it's the only thing I like to do daily till late hours.
It's like a treatment, it's good for my mind.
The beats that come out are getting better and better.
And the hardware has convinced me of my skills and capabilities.
The MPC has changed alot, the sound is amazing and now I want every piece of affordable vintage sampling hardware, otherwise my money will get "up in smoke" since I live in Holland.

But I have to say I've learned a lot of the basics on the PC that made it a lot easier to understand everything. I even have benefits of my drum lessons 15 years ago lol.

Tonight I'll get the ASR-10 if it has the SCSI expansion.
The S3000i from scoobylol will be in here Saturday with a bit of luck, then I'm settled for about a month I guess haha, then I'll be collecting more and more hardware!

I just want all the flexibility available sample-wise and stuff like the ASR-10 is awesome and unique.
But you're right, I will have to study on it, but I'm fine with hardware.. I learn fast and i'm eager to learn.

But I never worked with the payed version of JJOS (as I think 3.09 is free, it was installed when I copped it) so I'll deffie try that out tonight.
It will be a big difference as I've read, but I wanted to play with it first.

Now I've learned about almost every option in the on it I'm ready for the next.
I think I'll get a week off, or 2, just to chop my 600 records!

On the synthforum there's a ASR-10 Rack (minor issues) for 200.

I'm in love man, I soon let you hear my 1st 100% MPC based beat.
I created it yesterday and again was the reason that I was late on work today. (2 hours of sleep cus of chopping till 4PM.
It's like 250BPM, but very slow (so very precise grit) with the bitcruncher on it (LOVE IT) and some filter envelopes, it's banging the sh1t outta my speakers!

Can't to get my hands on the akai S3000i.

Just called the salesman, got it for 275 with SCSI:D:D:D:D:D (he told me there's an SCSI cable coming out of the unit:S I don't think this is regular is it??)

Anyway, I month warranty so I'm gonna get it anyway, it's a fvcking bargain man!

What you'll find with hardware samplers is that they have different ways of doing the same thing, and they have different tonalities.

I came up in the era when all these samplers were new (and at least $2-3000 a piece) so to be able to get any of them now for virtually nothing is very tempting. And I did that for a while. I've owned probably 20 different samplers. But when I really sat back and thought about it, I just kept coming back to the fact that it was never really about the features or 12 bit sound or whatever. It was about me and what piece enabled me to get into a comfort zone workflow-wise.

So yeah I encourage you to find your comfort zone. But I also encourage you not to lose sight of the goalposts.

As for software, the number one mistake I think people tend to make, is that they don't let their tracks out of the box to breathe a little bit... What I mean is basically people need something (preamps, analog filters, guitar amps, old school samplers, anything) to pass their tracks through. If they don't they end up with that constricted computer sound where everything just sounds too perfect or good but in the wrong way.

To make the problem worse, you have all these plugins at your fingertips that emulates those external boxes, so you kind of fall into that pitfall of processing the sh1t out of each and every track chasing after that elusive OTB sound. The problem is that digital emulation of hardware distortion and non-linearities is the poorest aspect of digital emulation. So then you end up with fake mud on top of your too-perfect sounding tracks.

Software production is valid to me, but you need at least one nice piece of hardware to send your tracks through. It makes a world of difference. (Of course that piece of hardware could be an old school sampler...)

Btw though, got my ASR, and it seems to have SCSI.
but the cable is hanging out (14pins) so I'm not quite trusting it.

But what the hell, seems to work fine and I think 275 eur with SCSI is well worth it:)

I'm happy it's recording function is working perfect and I have 20,000 blocks space so I guess it's mem is 8MB already.
