sell mpc1000 for ASR-10?

na dude. It depends on what type of sampling you are doing.......if i got a bass sound, i want it on keys! cause you can play it out.

If you got loops, you want pads.....or drums you want pads.

THe biggest differance between the asr and the mpc1000 are the sequencer on the mpc is better.....the sampler on the asr is better. The overall compatibilty with the mpc and a computer is better.

IF YOU EDIT YOUR SAMPLES on the COMPUTER you dont need the asr.

IF YOU want a standalone sampler go for the asr......if you are willing to deal with a "non mpc" sequencer.

Personally i would choose the ASR.

well i agree with your statement.

But i just wanted to say, im starting to feeene for more sampler options than my mpc2000xl can give me.......as the mpc1000 sampler seems even more basic than the 2000....i would want an asr too.

your comment is only valid depending on his level of experience. If hes experienced then i would not say its gear lust, its trying to acquire the right tool for his visions.

If you just bought your mpc1000. His comment is valid. So stick with your mpc1000 and use it to its fullest. Learn it 100%, and if it still doesnt fit you, then get the asr.

i guess i dont really have a point here. but.

yea thats what im doin for now but i dono i just really like the idea of keys for EVERYTHING. right now i use my controller for drums more than 1/2 of the time. BUT its things like bass sounds and shiit that make me want the asr and the abilty to play one sample stretched across a bunch of keys.

but for now im gonna stick with the 1000 and try to make do and if i still hate it around january then ill see how much money i have saved up and decied wether i want to not buy the asr at all, or buy it in addition to the 1k, or trade it for the 1k..... well see.

Why dont u just multi sample? Sounz like you aint quite worked out how ur machine works - Im sure the 1k can do this.

Theres so much more to production than gettin a bass sample to map out over your keyboard. Get a module, then problem solved!

a sound module might work....i mean, its probably the same cost as an asr depending on which one you get.

But first think about what you would actually use more....as the asr comes with no sounds, just like the mpc.

I mean: most of my bass sounds actually come from one of my keyboards....if not, sampled from one.

are you sampling vinyl? or are you using samples of keyboards and synths?

you could do a double whammy and get like a triton....or motif. where it has a sampler for spreading on keys, and it has some good sounds.

no but i sample of vinly now only and if i was gonna spend like 800 bills i would want a sampler so that i cound add unlimited sounds as opposed to a pretty limited sound module. but for now i think im straight with the 1k.


i know no matter what production takes time but i figure if i dont like the pads and setting up the samples like that and other shiit about the 1k then why keep it you know. dont hate.

Its on you tho, so do your thing. Im sure things will take u even longer to get str8 on an ASR than it does on the 1k.

it's not the machine that makes the music it's you, I susspect you haven't had your MPC that long, learn how to use it before you throw it away

If you're new to this stick with an MPC...if you're comfertable go with the ASR. The drum programming on the MPC is way too stiff (that's of course if you quantize). I know a lot of people that had to go back to the ASR (Jake One...who did the new De La single for example). Nottz, Saukrates...all those people use ASR10's because you can make the drums sound more natural. You have to understand the sequencing well however, and be comfertable to shift bars slightly. Some of the baslines Dilla uses are stock ASR10 filters with effects on them.... I personally didn't like the ASR because (1) I'm not patient and (2) I'm looping breaks these days instead of programming...plus I found ways over the years to cheat on the MPC... I can't quantize on the MPC to get the same feel as the ASR...so it takes longer. Of course sequencing the rest of the music is easier on the MPC
