Is an MPC footswitch a 'momentary' press or an 'on/off' type

I want to make a footswitch for my MPC1000 but I can't seem to find out if it should be a momentary one or an on/off type. Any one know?

i´m using an 'on/off' type.

Just tested this and it works fine with a momentary type.
It obviously also works (as TheUnfu-ckwithable say's) with an on/off type but I should imagine it's primarily designed for the momentary and I would stick with that.

Yeah that's correct. I believe it's a N.O. (Normally Open) switch. I'll take a look at the specs of my M-Audio switches and confirm it in a minute.

Thanks everyone. I successfully made a working footswitch using a momentary 'on' switch just as you say.

For anyone else... I used a 'DPDT Momentary Action Foot Switch' from Rapidonline - part no 78-0743. There are 6 pins coming out the bottom of the switch but you only need to use 2.

I connected the pins labelled 1 and 2 to the two contacts on a mono jack socket and mounted all that in a small metal enclosure. Works a treat. Then just use a normal jack lead to connect it to the MPC.

You can check you have the right pins: they should not be connected until you press the button and they should only stay connected for the time the button is pressed.

good to see you built your own and mounted them in their own enclosures. I thought about that a while ago. But all those switches I was using at the time were for the guitar pedals I built.
