mpc as a multitrack recorder

hello,

i'm trying to use my mpc 2500 with jj os 3.12 as a simple multitrack recorder. 8 tracks in mono with each round about 3 minutes of recordable audio. here's two ways i figured out, but they are not very easy to use:

1. the simple way: record each audio track from start to beginning. but that's a waste of ram and when there is no real audio signal but "silence" than all the tracks may add up to some noise that i don't want. and trying to cut out the silence and paste the audio in to the sequencer may not be as tight as when it was recorded.

2. with loop on: if i have a 4 bar beat but i only want to record a guitar for the last bar i can set the loop in the main screen to 3-4. but after i recorded that one bar the audio will be inserted at the first bar. i always have to paste it in manually at the correct position. is this a bug?

the first version would work really fine if i could cut the sample in relation to the actual bars and not the sample length. i was always wondering if that would be possible for jj to implement? (or didn't i see it in the manual?)

so the second method works, but it is not very easy to use.

does anyone have any suggestions?
is anybody else trying to use the mpc as a multitracker?

Have you using the sequencer? this will allow you to arrange how you want the samples triggered.

to save space on audio tracks you can have the audio track start playing on whatever bar you want, not just the beginning of the seq

bliprock: i hope i understand you correct. i don't want to record something and then trigger it as a sample. like i said: with 8 tracks this might get untight and.

i know it's limiting. but that's really what i want: kind of a minimalist approach. i really hate computers now. don't want them anywhere near when i am making music. don't want no other recorder either. just octatrack, mpc with 8 outs and then everything through my allen & heath mixer. want to add a reel to reel later on. no daw for me ever again.

nym: yeah, that's what i did. so if there is no other possibility i will continue that way.

but it's really strange that the recorded bar is always inserted at the beginning of the sequence. i wonder whether it's a bug or not possible any other way for jj. but it seems that i am really the only one here trying to do this.

Go to bar 3, press REC+PLAY (not PLAY START), it will record to the last bar only.

The loop start not matching the recorded audio start is a bug.

Audio tracks have random delays at the beginning of the audio files, so you have to trim them if you want tight sync.

Audio Tracks needs improvement.

i thought i tried every possible button-combination but obviously i didn't.
so now i can record multiple tracks and don't have to waste ram.
afterwards i can send them to the mixer via the 8-outs.

now i love my mpc even more... it's so versatile!
