If you don't need the keys, then I'd maybe take the phatty off the list cause it'll just make the decision making process worse, though it would be pretty bad to the bone to have one in the setup.

Slim Phatty is perfect in the case of someone that has keyboards already.

Buuuuuuuuuut if not?

How does one choose between the lil phatty, the minitaur + controller or the minibrute?

2012 GEAR LUST.... I gotta say I feel like an ADDICT!!! You all know I sold most of my hardware for the Mac Mini and Reason 6.... love it to death, gonna love Logic Pro just as much when I cop it. But analog synths in the $500 range that got serious balls.... yo that's just TOO hard to ignore!!! Now I don't wanna turn my studio into a huge collection of hardware, hogging up the living room again. But that MiniBrute EASILY has a spot awaiting on a small stand next to my desk where the MPC and x0xb0x sit. I'm drooling over the thought of how the minimal hardware setup is gonna be bangin' as hell... MPC1000, x0xb0x, MiniBrute.... done deal... my drum machine of choice for the past 7 years, my TB-303 clone of choice for the past 5 years, and one BANGIN' MiniBrute to add to the analog goodness of the x0xb0x. Now THAT'S a 3 piece POWERHOUSE.... compact and minimal... quick to rock a party or a live jam with the best hands-on experience.
I haven't owned an analog keyboard synth in about 10 years, since I sold the Juno 1 and 2. Those keyboard take a lot of space. I can't have that. I don't want to g back to a desktop synth like the Evolver I sold which i controlled with the Axiom 49. Keyboard synths are so much more fun. But they're expensive as hell... hence the reason I never bought the Evolver Keyboard or Mopho Keyboard. I was tempted by the Moog Minitaur until I saw the MiniBrute. It's clearly more bang for the buck and everything I'm looking for in an analog synth.

PS. I'm sure theres a ton of typos in this post. The muscle relaxers I took for my back kicked in, and I'm in la la land. But regardless of that, I got a good grip on how my studio is transforming, and I couldn't be happier with the direction that it's going.

Damn... got me flashing back to Christmas '95 when I got my first drum machine.. the Boss Dr-550 mk2. I made the best out of the 808 and 909 sounds in it. But I knew I was in for a very expensive hobby that would end up being for life, just like playing the guitar. Yeah I go bananas over all this shit. 16 years later I'm still a gear addict. 32 years later I'm still drooling over guitars like a hot piece of ass. lol

Speaking of Moog, I bought a Moogerfooger LowPass Filter from a friend 10 years ago and sold it a few years later... regretted that. Same friend had a 909 and an MS-20 for sale... I shouldn't let them go either. Wasn't ready at that time in my life to be replacing pots on a 909 and didn't have any knowledge of CV/Gate synths like the MS-20 and how to integrate it into a MIDI environment. Hindsight is 20/20. But I'm going off topic.

Back to the MiniBrute... you pointed out the control layout. That's a major plus. The only drawback from what I'm aware of is that it can't be used as a MIDI controller... only the keys will work. But I could care less about that, as I only wanna control what's onboard.
In a live jam setup, I would have 3 pieces...
MiniBrute on the left, MPC1000 in the center, x0xb0x TB-303 clone on the right. That's some fun shit right there tweaking all 3 machines. This is gonna bring the fun back, having an analog keyboard synth again, as far as just concentrating on hardware jams. I was tempted to buy the Akai MINIAK on Amazon (they're selling cheap for like $265). But after thinking about it, buying a Virtual Analog is a waste of money when I got all the virtual I can ever ask for right in Reason 6.

I'll always keep using my MPC and hardware. But keeping it minimal and smart on the purchase is the best way to roll for me. So I'll have to decide on whether to go for the MiniBrute first or the Nektar Panorama controller for Reason 6.
Something tells me to go for the MiniBrute first. It's an analog synth, so it;s a done deal... no firmware or OS updates needed. The Panorama is still too new, and if I'm spending $500 on a MIDI controller, I don't wanna get assed out if it don't live up to expectations. With analog, you know what to expect!
