I thought we were having a civil discussion. But I can understand you want to change the subject because you can't take back what you said. Can you name a company (other than Akai) that has released a hardware sampler in the past 10 years? If so, does that company still make samplers?

Give props when they are due. We are talking about Akai sampling workstations today...everything else takes a back seat.

Exactly the responses I was trying to get him to talk about.

1. Roland. MV...discontinued years ago as Roland is no longer supporting its samplers. Fantom G...sampler is an epic fail. I own it and can tell you everything you need to know.

2. Korg samplers are terrible. I own Korg's flagship sampler (Kronos) as well. That OS is like it was created in the late 90s.

3. Elekrton. Akai is not losing ground them. Not even close. Cool little samplers (Maschine Drum, Octotrack) does some nice tricks. Not on the same level as an MPC.

Akai still king......

the sp series by roland.. plenty of people love them and make amazing stuff with those:

the korg samplers.. who cares about the kronos.. you praised the hell out of that and didn't make an educated purchase... since yours doesn't even work and you dont even make beats..

furthermore, the ESX1-SD (even the original) is highly regarded for electronic music.. many people even on this forum who use MPCS live by them... okay for hip hop I dont know how well they rank... but for other genres... it has it's pros.

the octotrack... maybe again.. not for hip hop, but for glitch and dubstep... while electron may not be a huge company in the music world their machines are highly regarded even by many forum members...

nobody says the MPCs aren't good samplers... but you are saying everything else sucks which actually means nothing coming out of your biased mouth.

Yes, I am biased. Deal with it.

I stand by what I said that Akai is the king! No other sampler gets so much attention (good or bad). The MPC is king across all genres. I never said you cant make music with other samplers. I simply said Akai is the leaders in sampling. You wouldn't be here talking about MPCs if they were not.

Sp series by Roland are cute. I don't want to diss it because some people saved a lot of there hard earned money to buy one. But to me...it is some thing you would consider when you don't have enough for an MPC. Sorry...

Korg samplers...same boat. I was excited about the Kronos about the streaming engine and its sounds. Never have you heard me praise that terrible sampler. No Korg workstation has a good sampler.

You can name all the other cute little samplers....but no one is checking for them like an MPC.

Its a joke we are here debating whether Akai is the king of samplers. Nobody is talking about those other products or companies you have mentioned. And I knew someone would catch feelings which is why I added the disclaimer. So let me rephrase...an SP groove machines is something I tell people to consider if they can't afford an MPC....

wrong. you asked who other than akai has made a hardware sample over the past decade and still makes samplers today... several were named. You are catching feelings because people were able to..

again, you are a joke... you cant even accept that not all samplers are designed to do the same thing...

Sir, go back and re-read. You jumped in the middle of our conversation.

But here is a quick recap:
The conversation started with me proclaiming Akai as the kings of hardware samplers. Another gentleman implied it wasn't true. I mentioned other companies that produce samplers and pointed out the fact, Akai has been doing it for 25 years strong and out lasted all of them. He still didn't want to acknowledge Akai as the king so I ask if not Akai then who? I asked which companies produced samples through out this past decade. That's when you joined in. The debate was never who still produces hardware samplers...but who is the king of producing hardware samplers. No other company can make such a claim. Only Akai. That is why every forum is talking about MPCs...not much about the other samplers you mentioned.

I am ok with being a joke. But this doesn't change the fact that you are spending your entire day talking about MPCs. I like that. My favorite musical instrument.

if akai is the only ones still making hardware samplers... who are they the king of?

anyways, no denying they are good.. I agree they are great machines as does every member of this forum besides emptysea. I own several akai samplers, some which were released in 85 that still work amazingly to this day.

However claiming the roland SP series and the korg electribe series are strictly for people who cant afford an MPC is not at all true... since they go for the same price as many MPC models... well, maybe not in japan.. I have no idea about your part of the world.

We are talking about Akai (the king of hardware samplers) and your best response are the Roland SPs (a far cry from the MV) and the Korg Electribe? You sound like emptysea mentioning these samplers. I wouldn't use those samplers if they were given to me for free. So your argument is Akai is not the king because Roland and Korg have samplers that cost the same as "many" MPCs?

You are very entertaining....

dont put words in my mouth, I didn't mention who and who isn't king.. that is only you... you need one machine to be king because you dont know how to use two pieces of gear.

and you wouldn't use an SP if it were given to you for free, because you dont actually make music... therefore, you dont even use the MPC's you need to sell to afford the next one... that is, when it isn't income tax season

further more, you cant compare an sp to the mv or the mpc because they aren't the same style of sampler what so ever... same with the electribe. If you actually made music, you would see the pros of other machines instead of scratching your head every time one doesn't work the same way as the only one you actually tried learning.

@mr_debauch
This is getting funnier by the minute. You talk about what I can afford..when I purchased 2x Kronos, 2x MPC 2000, MPC 2000XL, Machine, and an MPD32 since May 2011. I just spent $200 upgrading my Kronos. I gave away both of the MPC 2000s as gifts. I will buy at least two new MPCs, Mac Pro, UAD effects card, Apogee/RME sound card and an analog synth this year. And getting one of my Ren's customized by Forat (for a total of approx $10K). If it makes you feel better and give you forum credibility, I am buying all of this with my income tax return money, just to collect dust as you indicated. I have no intentions on making music with any of them. Why would I make music when I can sit in the forums admiring how the Akai samplers are superior?Because at the end, all that matters is Akai is the king!

You brought up the Sp and Electribe in a conversation about highend samplers. I'll leave buying and learning how to use those groove boxes to you.

@Ill-Green, to be king, you have to be relevant today. The VP 9000 should have stayed a prototype. The MV series died a slow death (never to be continued). The Fantom G shipped without a keygroup sampler, and is the worst Roland sampler in years. The V-Synth GT showed promised but it wasn't a full blown workstation, laughable sample memory, really wasn't much better than the model before it...and came with a hefty price tag. So I can agree that Roland is the king in the actual sample technology (better than Akai), but they can't but it together in an intuitive package that people would continue to buy. Akai can do that.....
