MPC2500 & Sequencing My VST's

Just got my MPC 2500 and trying to figure out how to sequence my vst instruments from my pc into the mp.I know the connections are something like this:

MPC midi out to midi in of my pro tools rig.

Then what do I do can I hook up my keyboard midi controller and play the vst into the MPC or what?

Somebody with advice please help!!!!!

How many midi inputs do you have to your computer?

Here is the way to do what you want with one in/out on the computer.

1. Plug the Keyboards MIDI OUT into MIDI IN A on the MPC
2. Plug MIDI OUT A on the MPC to the MIDI IN on the computer midi interface
3. Turn on Soft Through on the MPC and set it to either OMNI-A or ALL
4. Fire up your VST
5. Play some notes and assuming all of your channel stuff is correct (keyboard channel is sending on the same channel the VST expects) then you should hear sound.
6. At that point you can play, record on the mpc, and it will play back on the computer.

If you have a larger MIDI interface to you computer you should take advantage of that but this'll work if you only have one MIDI in/out.

NOTE: You don't have to use MIDI IN/OUT A on the MPC. You can use MIDI IN B and MIDI OUT A, B, C, or D if you want but I'm just trying to not to confuse you. If that last sentence doesn't make sense then just ignore it for now.

If you are just using the MPC to control your VSTi...you don't have to turn on the Sof Thru to accomplish what you are trying to do. I use this function every day.

right, but i think he was trying to use his keyboard to control the vst but wanted to be able to use the mpc to sequence it. if you just wanna bang on pads and have the mpc send the corresponding midi note information to the vst then jahrome is right: you don't need the soft-through.

If you wanted to control the VST from a keyboard connected to your MPC, you should turn the Soft Thru to: As Track. If you set it to OMNI ALL, you keyboard will play every sound module/VSTi connected to the MPC at the same time.

This is not want you want to do 'usually'. I would use the OMNI settings if I was receiving MIDI sync commands from an external sequencer that needed to go the workstations (that contain sequencers) that are connected to the MPC.

hey that just a waste of time for me,why dont you use your direct record by recording your vst instrument into your mpc you would same alot of time with this method think of your computer as a fat triton

The In/Out loop from computer to MPC should work without any problems as long as you have your individual softsynths in your DAW set to receive on the same channel as the one your are transmitting from the MPC. As well, and it should be obvious, but the MPC must also be setup to a Midi track.
Also, yo may need to adjust your latency settings in your DAW as well so there are no timing issues (usually this is not a problem as midi is pretty fast but there have been reports from some that they have had timing issues in the DAW so refer to your DAW documentation if you need help with this)

The above thread gives you 'ins/outs' of routing but the midi setup is the same to run your softsynths from the MPC.

Last note, It is key to have the MIDI IN/OUT LOOP from the computer (via your interface or USB equipped Midi controller) coming back into the MPC's MIDI in if you want the MPC to remember the tweaks you do on the softsynts.
Otherwise, the MPC will only play back the note information that was sent to it via your controller's MIDI out since the routing is such that the computer is the last item in the Controller-MPC-Softsynth chain.

A perfect example of this is when I use my Novation Remote 49SLMKII controller. It is my MIDI interface to the computer and essentially, sends my midi notes into the MPC via its hardwired MIDI outs but also sends the knob tweaks from its own control surface to the softsynths, via its USB port. That being said, the MPC is not receiving the knob tweaks of the Novation controller UNLESS I route the MIDI output from the channel the softsynth sits on in the DAW back into the MPC.

So, to make something that seems hard, simple the setup would be this:

Midi out of controller (or computer MIDI interface) to MIDI in of MPC.
MIDI OUT of MPC back into MIDI in of controller (or computer MIDI interace)
Voila!, Simple.You can use the rest of your MIDI ins outs on the MPC for your hardware modules, etc.

Thats it. The rest is just a matter of setting up what needs to be done within your respective DAW's MIDI settings.
