hello. i just got an lpd8. i've read tutorials and watched youtubes and tried to add scripts (though i think the newest versions of ableton actually communicate better with the lpd8 so i'm not sure how valid what i've read is). my issue is that i would like to set up the lpd8 knobs so that they will affect whatever parameters are currently selected and not just one specific set. what i mean is, if i have like 4 things going at once, i'd like to make it so maybe the pads select which clip i want to tweak and then the knobs will be used to tweak. right now i can only get the knobs to deal with one particular clip's parameters and not a more global thing. i tried messing with some scripts but they were for older ableton versions. is the script thing really the only way to do it now? thank you for any advice. i'm on the newest version of ableton, by the way. thank you again.

When you say 'tried to add scripts' do you mean altering the UserConfiguration.txt file in the User Remote Scripts folder?

I noticed that in Options > Preferences > Midi Sync > Control Surface drop down, there is an option for LPD8. You might need to also select the input if it doesn't automatically for you. Have you tried this?

I've not used an LPD8 so another more experienced user might want to step in but it seems really similar to the Knobs on an MPD32 (which I DO use) and they map automatically to whichever instrument, rack or Effect that is selected (and with blue hand)

thank you for the response. well i've used an apc40 and that auto mapped. this thing doesn't auto map as far as i can tell. the LPD8 shows up in the drop down menu you speak of, now, without having to add a user script. i just tried to add one i saw on youtube, i guess, which claimed to get the knobs to work more universally. ideally, i don't want to be messing with that sort of thing because i'm no good at it! but nonetheless, does not see, to automap. maybe it is a matter of midi learning it the right way but i guess then i can't figure out the right way to automap for what i want, which is having the blue hand on whatever parameter i'm on at the moment.
