I always found Audio Tracks to be a great feature that I've used in the past to write complete tracks in the 1000, keeping it all in the box. Tonight I went and did the opposite. I've found that I have something more powerful than the MPC Ren. I have a standalone MPC that integrates even better with Reason 6 than I originally thought. Now of course the MPC is my controller for Kong, and the Q-links are mapped to some parameters in Kong's effects and drum modules. That's one benefit of using the JJ OS with Reason. Using Reason as a sound module is another, as in the case of when I started using Audio Tracks in the JJ OS.
Now I found an entirely different use for Audio Tracks, which some of you may be using with Ableton or other DAWs. However this one's crucial if you're a Reason user with an MPC.
Reason 6 has no MIDI OUT... what to do about recording some beats from your MPC, or better yet, how do you sync up a hardware synth to track and sync without MIDI OUT in Reason?
AUDIO TRACKS!!!!
Sync and record your hardware synth to your MPC using an Audio Track while the main project you're working on in Reason is playing in sync. (you'll be able to hear both Reason and the hardware synth you're recording at the same time). Then transfer the recorded Audio Track from the MPC into a new Audio Track in Reason. As long as you didn't change the tempo, your audio track will line up to the grid and be right in sync with the rest of the project. This works out perfect with my x0xb0x TB-303 clone. I don't need to rely on ReWiring to another DAW and using more CPU resources than necessary. Audio Tracks on the JJ OS saves the day!
