Using EXTRACT when sample editing question

MPC 5000 users, I haven't touched an MPC 5000 in years and I can't recall how it behaves when using the Extract function.

When you set your START and END points of the original sample and execute Extract does the MPC 5000:

1. Extract region between START/END points and display the new region in the editor as a new sample to be edited immediately?

or

2. Keep the source sample in the editor and just creates a new sample in memory that you can edit later?

Have you read the manual completely? Did you know that there are functions that the MPC 5000 can do that is not described in the manual? Or things that are described in the manual but not implemented in the MPC 5000? :oops: If you don't know or don't own an MPC 5000, there was no need to comment. You can't get the information about Extract because it is not spelled out in the manual. RTFM to see for yourself. :oops:

it's kind of straightforward to figure it out in the very moment you press the extract button actually...

btw: "I hope Akai does give the MPC5K new life."

man the unit works like cake and you can do the hell you want with that...

It's in the manual......The 5000 has no secrets. Every function is described in the manual+ addendum. How to use it creativaly is something else, which you will never find out if you leave the 5000 collecting dust like the OP.

I use Extract extensively on my MPC500 due to the fact that it lacks the chop feature.

It takes whatever start and end points of the original sample and copy it as a new sample. The original sample remains untouched but the new sample will have its start and end points truncated.
