Hi all, thanks for great looking forum.

I am looking to get MPC 500 just to play around on. I have downloaded some free instrumental backing tracks and are looking to load them up and play samples/effects over the top.

My question is about sampling time. Could I load a backing track into the MPC and press pads over the top. Or could I pass a backing tracking through the unit but only store my samples.

Thanks for any advice.

I know I was giving u shiit. But whatever, there is no wrong way to use an MPC.

Convert your backing track to WAV, and u can assign it to a pad and play the whole thing. You need to do this since the 500 doesn't have an "audio thru" function.

the mpc 1000 has an input through function and you can find a used one for really good deals if you wait and look a bit.

Of course another way to do it would be to buy a mixer and have the backing track (from computer, CD, whatever) on one channel of the mixer and the mpc sound on the other.
Loading up whole songs (as wav files) in the MPC itself might be inconvenient as it will take quite a time to load and it will fill up the available RAM space quite quickly (depending on how many songs you load at the same time of course).
