... Can the button lights be turned off, or set to just one colour such as the white, as opposed to red n yellow mix I've often seen ( I find those colours off-putting, but the whitish blue is fine ) ??

I hear that.

I'd guess you can just replace the pads with the usual grey ones, blocking out the lights.

Have they changed the sensors at all though to accommodate the lights? It'd be good to get some clarification on that. Also do we even know if these can be broken into yet? I mean I know eventually somebody will find a way in, but if it's a pain in the arse to do and needs special screwdriver heads or something then balls to it.

I also have a silly question/request:

This is being touted as a seamlessly integrated solution, in that you don't even have to look at the computer if you don't want. While personally I think that's a huge copout I'm willing to take the bait and ask...

Akai, please can you show me a video of somebody chopping and making a beat with the Macbook screen turned off. Lets see just how true to the original workflow these are.

Not asking for a demo of any emulations, or timestretching or even FX. Just get something sampled chop something up, assign to the pads and make a little sequence. The real bread and butter stuff.

we may make it so playback doesnt light the pads, but they would still light for pad selection in program edit etc.

Videos will come as the product is ramped up to release. That's one of the vids planned. people were making beats at NAMM, and most of the MPC users didnt really ever look at the computer beyond checking out the piano roll and the chopping stuff. there might be some vids online of that.

you need the lights in some modes. they tell you what pad or what track you're working with.

NOOOOO! Leave the lights fully functional. This is a really great feature on Maschine! It's really great for telling you what notes/samples are actually being used in a program that contains a bunch of unused samples. Really helps for assigning the proper samples to individual outputs for tracking. I believe if the function helps the workflow above all, people will get over the "corniness" of lit pads! 8)

Hopefully the mixer can let us know what pads are being used, by syncing the pad, with the channell.my thing is having more tracks and more polyphony, which should be at least 128. I got a good idea how to make those lights useful, but I'll wait to see if they already implemented it.
