Hard Drive Format w/o CF Card???

My question is "Can I format my MPC1000 Hard Drive without a CF Card?" I bought the MPC about a week and a half ago (120Gb HD, 40Gb is showing up used but no files shows up on the HD when I connect it to my computer)and it didint come with a CF Card. I've tried reading forums,Google,youtube,manual for the last week and still havent found an answer, it only talks about doing it with the CF card.Planning on buying a CF card this week but would like to format it first.

on Mac, plug in the MPC via usb and go into the load/save screen and hit usb. once you get the volume to mount, open disk utilities and select the MPC volume and look for Erase and Format or something like that. I don't remember what format it is, but that is how you do it on Mac. I don't remember how to do it in Windows. Someone should be along to help you out...

Thanks, Im new to the MPC1000 and because I cant find anything directly saying you can format the Drive without a CF card to hold the OS Im worried Im not going to be able to Load the OS off the drive

what kind of computer do you have?
what operating system are you trying to load?

you can do what you want to do. once you format the hdd, it is a blank slate. again, plug it into your computer via usb, load the os file you want to load and then unmount the drive (or right click eject on windows, i think).

then in the mpc, navigate to the operating system file and load it the same as you would an mpc project. easy peasy

Im using a PC with Windows 7 and trying to load the Akai OS 3.12, just so I get this straight---Do I format it using the key functions in the MPC? or using the format button when I right click the drive on my PC?

You can format it either way if I remember correctly. Once you format it, connect it via usb and locate it in your system (I think its at Start>Computer). Drag the Akai OS to the drive. After it is copied to the drive, eject the drive and then push the load button. You should see the OS file and should be able to load it from there.
