Is 61 vs 76 or 88 keys worth the extra cash on keyboard?

Looking at the Triton extreme or Motif 6 is it worth the extra cash to step up to 76 or 88 keys? I also have the opportunity to purcase a proteus 2k with the mo phatt rom for more than have the cost. The left over money can go on moving up from the DPS16 to the 24. What do you MPC Heads think?

A. Is the 76 or 88 worth the loot?

B. Go with the proteus 2K spend the extra cash at the strip club?

c. Save cash with with protues and step up to the DPS24?

Btw:
Music style is R&B and hip hop.

Go with the proteus and cop that Dps24.Imo.

Like cooocooo1 said, do you need more than 61 keys? A lot of people manage with things like the midiman oxygen keyboard that is only about two octaves, so 24 keys.... You want a bassline over a couple of octaves so you set it to play in that lower range. Later you want some gentle Rhodes chords, you set your keyboard to that range....etc.

Unless you are a good keyboard player & are going to be playing with both hands even 61 keys might be unnecessary.

skip the 88 or 76 keys.

Ive got a 76 triton.....now i can play the piano decent, and i produce hiphop....i never **** really need it.

i mean, if you are a "pianist" or a "penis" you might need it. But it actually adds alot of weight, and size that makes it a pain to transport.....if you are a "penis" you might need extra size and wieght.

anyways....i say get a fantom rack, or motif rack.....and also the proteous with the card.

the triton keyboard is 2000. A proteous with mophatt card should cost you around 300-500 bucks.

If you got the money for a keyboard, then spend 500 bucks on the proteous, and youve got 1500 to spend on the motif rack (which is 900) or on the fantom rack (1300)

get the motif rack, and spend the other 500 on the XV 5050 rolland rack.

this is what i would do with 2000 bones.

1. proteous rack $300-500
2. XV 5050 $500-650
3. motif rack. $900

or if you need a recorder:

1.proteous rack
2.xv5050 rack
3.digi 002 rack

it would be all you would ever need.

remember these prices are for a used proteous never pay more than 600 bucks for one fully expanded becuase you can find a cheap one on ebay.

the xv5050 rack has been price dropped on music123.com, or zzounds.com?

motif rack is new at $900

that MOtif Rack looks like it will be an awsome fit. What are the bass sounds like for creating baselines?

pm me.....with your address. Ill send you a sample of some motif bass.....and ill sample some of my triton bass, and a couple from my mophatt/proteous.

Id say they are nice......As of right now, ive been using my triton bass sounds. But they are recognizable........so you have to tweak them.

ive noticed on the triton basses, they get muddy real fast-you have to be carefull with what you layer, and then use effects to mix them and make sure they dont turn to mudd.

on the mophatt unit.......they are good straight out of the box, no real editing needed. Plus you get filters to run the through so you can add character to them.

as far as the motif, they are about equivalent, but they arent recognizable, plus you get more "acoustic bass" so you can do some jazzier shit. But as far as stock drums, the motif wins over the triton......and some mophatt drums.

I love using basses from sound modules, because you can layer them, get em fat, or make them sound differant by layering synthy sounds. On the triton i can get all those west coast.......dr.dre ish funky bass sounds.....or you can get the super sub style.

overall the motif looks the nicest. all the sounds are just good.

IMHO with any one though, you have to edit the sounds, try not to use the preset sounds without some tweaking;unless they are just super dope!
the triton is the easiest to edit and layer, then comes the proteous-very easy! but not as easy with the effects as the triton. But the motif seems the hardest, but i really only use samples from it.

btw. My first answer i was assuming you already owned a MPC to control these units with.

if not. Then i would pick the motif es 6.......not the motif rack because it doesnt have a sequencer or sampler.

but if you have a mpc, the motif rack is nice.

I do have a mpc2xl. I think your suggestion of the MOTIF rack is the way to I am going. Just got back from G-Center playing with some of this stuff. The Trition extreme has madd sounds but I just can't see myself paying for a sequencer when I already have the best in the MPC.

Motif rack demo by the dude at G-center blew me away. Plus he said I can use my old xp-10 keyboard as a controller.

so true about paying for a sequencer.......i felt the same way, but i ended up getting the triton because i didnt have a keyboard. Probably should have just bought a rack.
