Hey Nym have you tried pseudo granular synthesis? Since we are all talking about VA (virtual analogue) synthesis techniques with wave forms. Let me step in here and mention another technique, that i use a fair bit.
Ok so you using a wave to make a synth and the sampled wave has a cycle frequency giving you the pitch. Ie the sample has a pitch. Now instead of using program settings to give multiple pitches of that one wave form, you create a cycle that is of a inherent frequency to make the pitch.

This will open up mad glitchcore timbres.
So tuners help here. and some math, or do it by ear like i do to another instrument. I mean you do want correct intonation, but alternative tunings can be done easy, and save the program of different scales for future use.
So what I am saying is that instead of wave, just get any old sample and cut out a bit. Now loop that bit. Set the sample to loop, but in program mode set sample to play as played, not looped. So when you hold pad it loops and when you let go you stop hearing the loop. The actual loop size of the sample looping is the frequency which gives you the pitch of the note. I then either go 16 levels or map in a program. Mapping to program is good as you can do just intonation and also alternative scales as well. And save them as i said before to. I was havnt tried taking this to the next step and make a synth program of this method. Will be interesting
