Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Hi there,,

i am new to the mpc500 and got the following problem.

I make a Beat. I save the Sequence, then i go to song mode and convert the sequence to a song. After that i record the main output (in this option STERO is enabled in the mpc settings) and save it as a sample on the cf Card. Then i plug it to the PC via USB and get the Beat (sample) from the CF Card. If i play now the sample on the pc i just hear the beat on one side of my headphones (mono).
What do i wrong ?

i have the headphones plugged in to the Phone In on the mpc, no monitors

greets.

It hasnt something to do with my pc other wave files i can hear on both sides. When i make the beat on the mpc i hear it on both sides. But when i save the sample and assign it to a pad and i press the pad i hear it just on one side

So all other samples play properly within your MPC? Have you opened this WAV file in an audio editor to make sure the waveform is correct on both channels?

If all checks out - Do you have a memory upgrade? Try taking it out and see what happens. If that fixes it, you probably have faulty memory.

okay another time, i download a sample from the internet and hear it on BOTH sides! then i load it into my mpc and assign it to a pad. When i press the pad i hear it on both sides on the mpc! But if i record that and save it as a sample and assin it then to a pad i just hear it in mono

But if it was resampled in mono, it would still be heard on both sides of the headphones.

The only way you'll get sound in one ear only, assuming there's no problem with the headphone or the headphone jack (which there doesn't appear to be as other sounds play fine), is:

mono sound hard panned to one side in the mixer
stereo sound with a blank channel on one side
hardware issue affecting playback or recording, most likely memory

Ah yes. One thing I was also wondering that if he's recording it from stereo out to computer and then transferring it back to mpc that something goes wrong there. But that's not the case, is it?

so i called the akay support. The guy on the phone had a mpc 500 for himself standing. He did the very same than me the recording in stereo it worked for him for me not. He said i should send it back to them but i got it just 1 day it is brandnew so there could not be anything defect or wrong or ?

I dont have anythging in the stereo out or in, i just have plugged in my headphones is there the fault ?

okay i try it another time:

So I JUST have plugged in the Headphones in the headphones out nothing else.
I do not have the memory upgrade.

So i Load the preset Sequence Top_Gun. Then i Press Mode and SONG and make it a song. Then i Press mode and record. In this settings i have stereo enabled, monitor OFF,Auto Norm OFF,Threshold -48, Record : Main Im gonna press do it and then i press play. The recording begins. While the recording i hear the song on both ears of my headphone. After recording i assign the recorded sample to a Pad for Example A1. then i go back in the Track Mode and Press the Pad A1 which i linked the sample to. Now i hear the sample when i press the pad but JUST on one ear, on the left one.
if i save this sample and load it per usb on my computer i hear it just on one ear too

Now i tried to do a easy beat just a basedrum. i Convert iot to a song go to record and enable stereo and press do it then i press play and the recording begins. While recording i hear it on both sides. But when recording is finished and i assign it to a pad and press the pad it is just on one side

Press mode + program (it shows the currently active program). scroll 2 times until it says "Sample level". Hit the pad where your sample is, so it shows the correct pad. check that "P:MID" (if not move cursor to that and scroll until it is).

No sorry that wont help if when you save your sample it still has only one channel... the above help would only affect the current program.

The pad you load the sample to must be panned hard left/right.

Maybe the settings are auto filled as you're using a demo song.

Go to mode, program then scroll left twice to level and check the panning settings.

On second thoughts. That wouldn't explain why the sample plays thru one channel on your computer.

It's a strange one mate, that's for sure.
