I'm sure it will have a "detect" feature similar to Recycle and Maschine where it will do it by increasing stregnth!

False, at least for 1.0.

Hmmm! Thought I heard Andy refer to this in one of St Joe's vids. Maybe it was just the effects? Pretty sure something from the 5K was said to be included!

yeah I know, but I searched the whole internet in order to make them work with inc/dec in ableton live and NOBODY has ever been able to tell me how. nor akai, nor ableton, nor ableton certified trainers.
if you have a look around the net you can find a whole lot of people asking how to make those encoder work as inc/dec but nobody has the answer...
(if you can tell me how, that'd make me more than happy!)

that's why I was a bit worried about these ones... the only thing that relieves me is that the Ren will be using its own software so, however those encoders work, they should do the job right...

Unfortunately, Ableton doesn't support standard INC/DEC protocol. they use their own.

at last someone with an answer! thanks!
(I would have hoped that was advertised on the MPK when I bought it though...)

at least I know we don't have anything to worry about regarding the Ren. it seems you guys are doing a good job with this product. if I see it supported by the company the right way, it could really be something worth buying.

Ableton work really closely with us, and are pretty cool guys. I've been asking for them to support standard INC/DEC protocol on the MPK for years now. If you bring it up on their forum, they usually are pretty good about responding. More voices speak up, the more they might listen.

we have a threshold that's selectable, then you strike a pad to select a slice. its pretty awesome the way it works now.

realtime time stretching will be after 1.0. we'll have high quality beat slicing, support for rex files, and you can make patched phrases in 1.0, but elastic style audio and audio tracks etc will come in an update a little later.

as I said, I've tried. I tried by myself, I contacted Akai, I contacted Ableton, I've asked on every forum you can find on the internet about Ableton Live, I've asked all the major Ableton Certified trainers you can find through google... nobody has got any idea how to make those things work as dec/inc.
I've also found other people like me asking for advice or trying to program them by themselves but without success.
regarding the Ableton staff being pretty good about responding I agree, but I guess this isn't a big issue for them. the only answer I've got is to use the workaround I've already mentioned before. too bad it doesn't work at all in some specific cases I came up with.
what disappointed me was the marketing of this controller. it's even advertised on the Ableton website as completely integrated with Live and it should have been able to do the dec/inc...

I'm not saying this as a rant or anything, neither I wanted to derail this thread. it's just to clarify the situation about that topic since I brought it up in the first place and it started this conversation.

anyway, I only wanted to be reassured at least that the new products you are building haven't the same problems.

about the Ren: what I was glad to hear is that you guys know how those things work: when I contacted Akai about this issue it took me quite a while before someone could understand what I was talking about... that's why I was worried at the beginning when you told me they were the same knobs.
and since you are the ones dealing with the software and the interface, I'm sure the controller and the software will be perfectly integrated.

I'm wondering since the MPC-REN support s/pdif, will I be able to use my Apogee Mini-ME and Mini-DAC for IN/OUTs.

thanks

Yes, but the s/pdif outs are mirrors of the main, like all the other MPCs, so you wouldnt be gaining additional channels, jjust the sound of the appogees, which would be pretty cool. you could pick the flavor you liked per track. MPC or apogee.

That's awesome. Thanks.

@xparis001

Is it possible to add a function that maps one sample across the whole keyboard? Like the ASR-10 and the XL?

AND is it possible to make this function so u can choose weter u want to do it by regular pitch, the notes change length, or by pitch shift, so all notes stay the same lenght but the pitch change? Simillar to the V-Synth & Roland VP-9000. that be relly cool!

^^^Agreed

Roland VariOS sampling is the bomb for realtime sample manipulation.

Yes to the first part of this. The new mpcs will have key grouping, so this can definitely be done. The second part (elastic audio) will not be ready for 1.0 but we want to add it soon after.
